375 flanged - 270 or 300 grain
      #209883 - 02/06/12 11:20 PM

So, I am down the road to the point of having to decide what bullet to regulate my double rifle to....I saw Mike Baileys Holland was regulated to a 300.

Thoughts?

I cannot think of any reason not to use the 300 grain bullet.

I suppose if your purpose was Euro driven game than maybe the 270 might be better but the versatility of the 300 grain and the selection is amazing.

300 grain in a .375 every time.

Are you having it regulated with factory ammo? If so which brand?

300 gr for me too. The 300 gr will do everything the 270 gr will do and more.

Which .375 Flanged? 2 3/4 flanged or Flanged NE Magnum

The bullets designed for .375 H&H velocities will not expand in the 2 3/4 Flanged.

Good point, usually the .375 Nitro Express is loaded with a 270 gr while the .375 Flanged (H&H Mag rimmed equiv) is loaded with a 300 gr.

I presume you mean 2 1/2" flanged, I donŽt know of a 2 3/4" flanged and no one in their right mind would have a modern double regulated to the 2 1/2". 300 grains IMO best

If this is for the gun you had been telling me about; I would go 270gr.

This is the Flanged Magnum variety.

My intention was to have the gun regulated to a specific velocity. .300 - 2425. .270 - 2600. I could reload or buy a factory ammo which, I would think would base they velocities on the original Kynoch or Elley loads.

The rifle will be scoped, so 175+/- fps is a consideration.

OK, so it is the normal flanged magnum, why is + or - 175 fps a consideration ?? FYI Norma .375 300 grain flanged runs at about 2300 (I have chronŽed it) but the animal wonŽt know a damm bit of difference, best

Mike, have you used that load on any thin-skinned game? It's a heavy jacketed bullet and I'm wondering what expansion was like?

If I had one: I would have my .375 Flanged regulated for heavist bullet using ironsights in both barrels. I would use leftbarrel/reartrigger for scopeuse and use a light spitzer-type bullet for longrange in that barrel.

Maximus, have shot boar and Red Deer(that was with a 350 grain woodleigh) here in Spain, and a good warthog in Selous with it, all dead within 40 yds, all shot within 80 yds range, best
