Victor Sarasqueta Special Series full side lock double rifle
      #209147 - 27/05/12 12:21 PM

just added this to my collection what can anyone tell me this is how it was described.Victor Sarasqueta Special Series full side lock double rifle, .375 H&H Magnum cal., nicely
scroll engraved; double triggers, automatic ejectors, pistol gripped, Monte Carlo cheek
piece, bushed firing pins; engine turned interior of action; with raised and filed rib
with iron sights; blue and case hardened finish, checkered wood stocks showing straight
grain selected for strength; the rifle measures 41” overall; 23-5/8” barrels, of medium
weight; hard rubber recoil pad added; end stock measures 15-1/4” to the end of the pad.
The condition is fine to near excellent; 98%-99% blue and case hardening; some limited
use, minor storage scratches but near excellent overall with fine bores. One of a small
number imported by W.L. Moore (Bill) of Agoura, California approx. 30 years ago and made
in a special series; serial #97817; approx. 7-1/2 pounds in overall weight. Est.:

Hello, Bwananelson:

I (and others) are waiting for the photos...
I think I have a close relative of your Sarasqueta, same description and caliber. Two years ago I translated Pondoro Taylor book "African rifles and cartridges" to Spanish. Just a few weeks after getting my hard earned money, I found the Sarasqueta in a gun shop. I considered it a signal from God, as I had always wanted a spanish double and I love the 375.
Mine is 97745. It is marked V1 under the barrels, corresponding to 1977. Sarasqueta (Victor, not to be confused with other Sarasquetas) is perhaps the most classic of the spanish rifle makers. And maybe the only classic spanish maker of doubles in African calibers. He made even a very few .577 NE doubles. In the 40s and 50s he made .475 nş2 in the same style as our doubles, which were used for hunting in the forests of the Spanish Equatorial Guinea. In the same years he made many doubles in different smaller calibers, mainly 8x57, very useful in our driven hunts, but you can also find them in .303 British and in obsolete calibers.

Antonio

Hello, Bwananelson:
I do not know exactly with what bullets the rifle was regulated. Mine makes very good groups, much less than one inch at 50 m with each barrel . It shot a little too wide for my taste with the 270 grains Hornady Core-Lock ammunition, 3-3,5" with the two groups level and better with Sologne GPA bullets (a solid copper banded bullet, made in France, very similar to the Barnes TSX). I know another Sarasqueta of the same vintage, identical to mine and probably to the one you have, that shoots very well with the Hornadys mentioned. You can begin trying with that ammunition.
I re-regulated mine with factory Norma Oryx of 300 grains, if I ever go to Africa I would like to shoot the heavier bullets.
Mine balances about 1,5" forward of the hinge pin, weights 8,5 pounds. It is very comfortable to shoot and very steady offhand.
