slug gun
      #209016 - 26/05/12 04:48 AM

was standing in the gun rack of a local dealer
seems to be a common post war Suhl made shotgun in 16/70(2 3/4") boxlock ejector with atomatic safety

but two thing were special and I could not resist

there is a claw mount

for a Zeiss Ziel 6 scope

and its made by Gebrüder Adamy in 1957

one of the smaller firm's who survive the 20. century
http://www.adamy-jagdwaffen.de/en/home.php

first trip to the range with Schönebeck slugs shows that the gun did what it was made for. both barrel shot fine on a line and crossing at 50 meter. right barrel 10 cm left from the centre and left barrel 10 cm right from the centre.
build as a shotgun
I am still collecting other slug ammo and we will see if I find a load that shot more together.
range report will follow this summer. common method was to sight the scope for the right barrel and use the double like a cape gun.

Hello
That is the exact same model of gun minus the ejectors I used for my bore rifle.
Mine was born in 1956 .
Nice find.

Hello Lancaster,

congratulations, that's a good purchase!
A sound and very useful shotgun, good condition, and the scope and the slug history are the icing on the cake.
Will you use it as a shotgun as well, for shooting clays and small game?

The barrels look looong (but this may be a perspective thing)- how long?
And how much choke in the barrels - the usual "half and full"??

Best regards,
fuhrmann

yes the gun is a good build and the action is absolutly tight - 100%
barrel lenght is 72,5cm
it will be used mainly for trap and small game.
have to try the Sellier &Bellot 24 gramm Trap cartridge. its the only sporting cartridge I found here in 16 ga. dont know what happen when they ban lead completly some day. the only working non lead cartridge is the eley wismuth iirc but with this price not the thing you would like to use on clay shooting.
heaven knows if we will see shotgun only hunting coming back ever. some of this scoped double guns are still around here but when you see them on driven hunt's with guns only nobody use the scope. its not the right thing for this kind of hunting. they were made once as a replacment for a rifle that was not available.

I was trying to make better pics of this double but the light makes it very hard for me. its to dark or to brightly:

Would be handy in the Top End where pigs might also be encountered.

It would be handy here in the canyon behind our house for going out on chuckar and quail, where we also often get cougar and coyote.

It'll be great if you can find or develop a slug or roundball load that will hit together to the sights or scope!

What was the price?

Cheers

the gun cost 350 + a little bit for a new rust bluewing of the barrels. it was more worn than fired before so a little refresh was necessary. there are some of this guns around here most in the hands of older hunter's. 10-20 years from now we will see more of them come back to the gun market but the new generation dont value them. you know it: not a 12 ga magnum, wan't kill anything.
such 16 ga double guns seeing a lot of use on wild boar here. much more than in other area's I believe but the 16 ga is official seeing as obsolete. this hunters know them from the past and trust.
I have seen 16 ga double guns used in thick woods were you can only see up to 10-20 meter on wounded boars.

I was on a driven hunt in very thick cover when a wild boar would say in the 35-40 kg class run between my feets. my feets were standing maybe 10 cm from each other and the boar had have a velocity of maybe 100 km/h, ok maybe 50 km/h. the cover was to thick to fall over but it hurts for days.
the boar itself trying to rescue his little life was runing directly to such an older guy with 16 ga double gun and brennecke slugs.
I did it like hannibal lecter, eat his liver and drink chianti wine.

So the boar went between your legs? Ha ha, luckily you didn't loose anything when he went through.

Eu350 for this gun sounds very good for me for a gun fitted with claw mount bases and the scope is just extra cream on top.

A 6x scope on a shotgun sounds a little big though? The perfect place for a 2 1/2x or a 4x that no one makes these days.

fortunately I am 1,80 m and the bloody boar was 50-60 cm, no danger at all
the 16 ga brennecke shot thru at 30 meter.

the Ziel 6 was for using it like a rifle in low light

Sounds quite innexpensive to me- considering the claw mounts.

For load testing on my 12 bore double with round ball loads, I mounted a 2.5X-8XX40mm scope on the centre rib.

Load development goes more quickly as there is less shooting needed per load change when there is no sighting error. Worked well.
