Spring Turkey..
      #207484 - 22/04/12 02:58 AM

Went and helped a friend of mine do some fencing on Friday..got done late afternoon so we decided to give a try at calling in a turkey..season opened a few days ago..

Rod and Scott called for about half hour when we had a flock feed toward us..we moved down in the brush a bit further..as they were coming in an attempt to get a shot...got his guy at around 45 yards with my 12 gauge shooting 3" 4 shot...

Lots of fun to be out and experiencing spring in Montana..

Took this on the way over along the highway....

The bird..not a monster..but fun non the less...

Awesome.

Do you always aim for the head / neck on those things
or the body ?

Reason for asking is you see the US Adverts and the aim point
seems to be the head.

Good stuff anyway.

He was out a bit for what I was shooting..or so I felt..so yes--I did aim for upper area..more upper neck..figured some would hit body and some head with the spread of the shot..

Headed out backpacking ..should have some amazing photos when I return..

Take care

Ripp

Great pics, Ripp - still got snow here, in spots. Shooting the trail again tomorrow-maybe I'll use the .58 DR again.

I was hoping to get out with my daughter for turkey's this spring, but it's not going to happen - again. Maybe next year.

Yes , when hunting turkey with a shotgun , always aim for the head . Most hunters use from #4 to #6 shot , that size shot to the body will not put them down reliably , but a few pellets in the head / neck will .

Nice Merriams there Ripp . Hope to hunt some turkey myself soon .
