Recently completed DORLEAC & DORLEAC 9,3x62 Mauser rifle
      #207313 - 18/04/12 10:53 PM

Some hastily done photos of a recently completed 9,3x62 Mauser rifle.
It's a true hunting rifle, not one made for show.
We have build it on an original civilian Oberndorf A type action, with a 25" Lothar Walther barrel and our traditional stocking in fine old French walnut.
Except for a few color case hardened or nitre blued parts and furnitures, the whole steel was slow rust blued and the wood London oil finished.
Indeed, as a Continental gun, with a quickly detachable, claw mounted big scope and perfectly regulated iron sights -there is another interchangeable gold tipped caterpillar front sight in the trapped grip cap-, perhaps, it could not conform to the American taste…
I will appreciate your comments.

Overall design is well executed. I particularly like the clamshell detail on the grip cap.

Another great looking rifle that anyone would be proud to carry and use. The one thing I see is the point of the comb that has a sharper apearance than I would personally want. Purely an objective observation and certainly not a criticism.

Magnificent rifle, Joel! I love the slim, long lines. You needn't worry about it not conforming to American - or any other tastes for that matter. Several people from different nationalities love these lines!

Thank you and good hunting, my friend!

Excelent! Looks like a rifle I'd want to carry afield, slim, handy, perfect!

What would be the asking price on such a rifle, Joel?

Thanks for your kind words.
We ask about 15.000-euros for such a rifle, without scope but claw mount included.
They are made the old way, on blue printed and modified pre-war Original Oberndorf commercial actions.
I will try to post some new photos of rifles we have in the making.

Will look forward to the pics, Joel. They will be spectacular. The rifles are built by you, after all.

Good hunting, my friend.

Mehulk,

It's the 25" bbl that gives it the "look", 23" bbls look stumpy IMO, like my Dakota.

My H&H has really long 28" bbls which surprisingly makes aiming easy because the muzzle does not "wander" as much.

Very nice indeed. One small thing I like is the rosette engraved around the take down screws instead of on them, a nice but different touch

Very, very nice! BTW I sense the rear sight placement (close to the receiver) is set for younger eyes than mine.

That is a really beautiful well made rifle. If you were building it for me I would ask for the fore end to be a little longer and a rounded rather than tapering forend tip - but thats just my taste and am sure iw ould very quickly get used to this one.

And the bolt handle is on the wrong side, as it is on all really nice rifles.

Could I ask what the diameter on the end of the barrel? It looks very thin for a 9.3!

Compared to a 7x57?

It's 15mm, a common end diameter for a 9,3 25" barrel.

Exquisite rifle built the way they should be, my compliments on the rifle and I am an American. Rifles with open sights and high quality quick detachable telescopic sights maybe will catch on someday in the United States. That would be a good all around hunting rifle up here in the northeast U.S. for deer, moose and bear which I would gladly carry. I recently picked up an original Mauser 1931 Type A in 9.3x62mm and the barrel muzzle measures 15mm as Dorleac stated. Just curious what that rifle sells for without the engraving or grip compartment Dorleac?
