I have great kids

My 4yr old boy just told me that he wants a .375 NE 2-1/2" double rifle when he's 10yrs old.

Just like that.

Cheers

Tinker,
Your 4 year old boy is way ahead of me, for I wanted my first double rifle, a .375 2 1/2", when I was in my late 20s. Since that time, I have done nothing but add to my double rifle collection, and only regret that I didn't start buying them sooner! Hooraw for your boy!!

He's a good little scout.
We'll likely build him one in the machine shop.
He wants in on every process, every skill, every tool.

Great to read, made me laugh out loud, "when he is 10" like that is a long way off, which it is to him !

That 375Ex 2 1/2 is addictive ?

Sarg-

He's been riding right along with the load development etc.
Got a big kick out of the chronograph '...two THOUSAND feet per second..?!!'

He took two cartridges and said his rifle needs to have two barrels like my other rifles...

Tinker,

Pat yourself and your Mrs on the back, my friend! Great children are always the result of great parents!

Life has to be good when your kids are interested in shooting and hunting. This means that you will have many decades of great hunting with them in the future, and also that our sport is safe.

Wonderful, indeed!

I think a .410 shotgun SbyS would be a great starter for a ten year old.

I started carrying around one of these when I was about 9 or 10. Then later a single shot .22 rimfire.

My first rifle of my own was a .222 at about 16. Then my ,30-06 year or so later. Believe it or not, turned down a .375 H&H Double Rifle for $1100 back then, because I wanted something bigger!

Reckon a .410 would be good for a young kid. I don't believe in spoiling kids. Make them work for the special things in life.

Good attitude re guns by the kid though.

I agree with that, one doesn't become a proficient shooter/hunter by stepping straight into a big game calibre, not even as an 18 year old...an apprenticeship in stepping up is usually spoken of by those that are good at their trade in later life.

Thanks for the comments guys!

My kids live here on our little 40 acres, with thousands of open acres around us. My 4yr old boy and his 6yr old sister often accompany me on walks and rides, with their rifles in hand. The 6yr old girl -- she was making hits at 200+ yards with her .22lr rifle at 4-1/2yrs of age!

They'll definitely be running central fire rifles by age 10.
We'll see if the boy gets his .375 double rifle wish, but by his age I was earning money independently so I won't be surprised.

Cheers

Tinker,
You are headed in the right direction with those two. Keep up the good work.
