Matt,

a member on NE.com has asked me about how the European mounts from this photo were prepared?

I gave him my recollection. Maybe you can detail the process here as well?

Sure

We boil the horns off one at a time (takes 1/2-1hr each side). Trim half of each horn butt with a chainsaw - reboil the skull for about four hours. Pressure-wash boiled skull and horns. Soak skull in hydrogen peroxide/water bath for 1-2 days. Leave everything out to dry in the sun for 3-4 days, which is what you see these little babies doing. Well - not so little, I think the smallest one was 98 inches from memory!

This is a great system - the best I have seen. You can get through a lot of trophies and the end result looks very professional.

John by far the best way to clean a skull is to do the following :-

Clean as much meat, muscle ect off the head.
Buff heads will usually pop the horns of with a little help from a rubber mallet especially in the tropics after a few days in the sun.
Oil horns with neatsfoot oil
Boil the head in a mixture of washimg soda and water.
Most of the debriss can be scraped off or washed off with a high pressure hose.

The main reason for using WASHING SODA is to stop oil or fat staining the bone...

This is by far the best method and many taxidermists in the US use this method on a variety of animals......
