EPA denies Petition to Restrict Lead Tackle..
      #203620 - 25/02/12 02:54 AM

The EPA Denies A Petition To Restrict Lead Tackle: “Science has prevailed. The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has denied a petition by the Center for Biological Diversity (CBD)—an anti-sportsmen group—that would have precipitated significant restrictions on lead fishing tackle all over the United States. The CBD wanted the EPA to use the Toxic Substances Control Act (TSCA) to heavily regulate anglers from using tackle they have long used even though science doesn’t support such a measure. The Congressional Sportsmen’s Foundation (CSF) has been, and will continue to, fight such unscientific lead bans and restrictions at the state and federal level.” (Source: Congressional Sportsmen’s Foundation Website) http://www.sportsmenslink.org/node/581

It's about time a governmental agency made a proper decision.

Surprising and very nice to see - for a change.

As far as scientific studies are concerned, I cannot help by wonder how many condors died from ingesting lead contamination when eating wounded but lost big game in the State of California. I suspect California is on it's own merit in that lunacy.

Well, that's interesting.

You can't take Waterfowl as an example and apply it across all of the US - or any country for that matter.

Concentration of both lead and waterfowl and where it is - non feeding areas versus feeding areas makes a hell of a difference. Studies were done in the UK on Swans and others a long time ago.

They still banned lead shot for use over water though....

Same here - except lead banned for all migratory game birds.

Can use legally lead shot for upland birds and rats, bunnies, deer, bears, whatever.
