Exotic Hunting in Texas
      #202598 - 16/02/12 03:41 AM

Had a chance to go hunting on a ranch in Texas for Exotics...

Had a great time..however was unusual the second day in that it was 29 degrees and snow on the ground and blowing..

However on the second day it was 68 sunny and a little breeze..

The animals shown are Addax, black buck and scimitar....

Wanted the Black buck most of all as hunters have been trying to get him for over 2 years..got lucky and found him running with some does on snowy Sunday morning...

All in all a great trip for what it was...

Wasn't there some sort of suit that was seeking to limit or a stop to hunting of several species of exotics in Texas?

Good stuff, thanks for posting.

Why "Wanted the Black buck most of all as hunters have been trying to get him for over 2 years"

Was he the last one or did they want to get rid of him ?

NO..they have numerous ones..but this one seemed to be a bit trickier..typically the bucks will stay with the herd--including does..but he, per the manager, would not do that..once pressured or if he spotted a vehicle or human..he would head for the thicker stuff and hang out ...and constantly running if you got within several hundred yards..most don't,can't or won't take a running shot..so he was given a pass for a couple years from misses or not finding him...so wanted to give it a try..probably got lucky..but as they say, I'd rather be lucky than good...

Yes, running shots on game are a practised art. If people having done it, no point in wasting or potentially wasting
a good trophy.

yes the humane society and some other group filed a suite to limit hunting of Addax and Scimitar..per the interview..even though there are around 14,000 of them in Texas..because they are endangered in their native country, they will be considered here as well..so new restrictions are being implemented as of 4-3-2012..the story goes that if you have 10 in a herd, then 1 can be taken.. 20 --2 can be taken..and so on..

all in all, its complete BS,,,and another example of how messed up this world is..

the lady on 60 minutes stated she would rather see a entire species go extinct than allow hunting of them in Texas or anywhere else for that matter..how can you argue with a moron like that???

can get the contact info for you ..my friend Troy set it up with a guy in San Antonio..who is a guide for numerous ranches..nice guy and he is a taxidermist to boot...and meat processor..so its a one stop shop..

As to hunting here vs Africa...I would still much rather do Africa...but this was a nice distraction for the winter doldrums..

I was able to google this from today. I wonder if you can book a hunt before April for the affected species?

Well unable to get the clip to paste but a good case made by the ranchers.

Some nice trophies there. Like them all and will no doubt round out your trophy room with some really good exotics.

I was reading about some new permit being needed. On the whole didn't seem too onerous.

Also was reading about that idiot woman. Yes, she said something like she would rather the species go extinct than allow hunting of it. Also the animals should be relocated back to Senegal (or somewhere like that) as they are natural there, and even if they are all poached within a couple of years, they should be relocated back ...

Brain dead ffffing moron not deserving oxygen, and certainly no media attention.

As Forest Gump said.."Stupid is as stupid does"...

she doesnt give a crap about the animals as much as she wants to make sure no one hunts period..whether that be exotics or any other game...she is so blind by her hatred of hunting she cant see the good for the species...IMHO of course...

What is really amazing is the ability of the treehugger crowd to use the courts, state and federal agencies to force their will on private landowners and ranchers (and hunters).

Looks like alot of fun. Do they allowing hunting year round?

yes--however you may want to be selective in what time you go for certain species..such as Axis or Fallow..so you are there when they are in "Hard horn"...and relatively early in that process as they fight and get busted up..
