Would you believe that I found a rifle, Identical to one that I just picked up, on an auction site

Mine unfortunately, has a few changes. Someone swapped the bolt with one that is color cased, has a lyman tang site that fits over the bolt lever, they replaced the rear tangent site with two folding lymans, and opened up the front dovetail to take a 5/8 bead. Set triggers as well.
And it appears nearly unfired.

Oh, and someone left it in a barn for a number of years. Near some salt.

Its already a work in progress

I'll consider posting pix.

I can't find a suitable rear so I may mill a base and fit it to a sight from a broomhandle.
If anyone has a better Idea, or the correct sight, please let me know.

Stop, before you start machining a new Tangent rear sight base, have a close look at the dovetail in the rib if it was really set up originally for such a sight. These tangent sights were fitted in dovetail cuts about 2" long on ribbed barrels. Tangent sights were only one option on Mauser B rifles, more often they are found with more conventional and practical hunting type sights, most often consisting of a standart with one or two folding leaves, see Jon Speed's "Mauser-Original Oberndorf Sporting rifles" page 135.

Hmmm. The base that's on it now is pretty ugly. Actually it is far simpler than the rifle. The dovetail fits perfectly and the base is tapered upward on either end to a double folding leaf. The combination which is a Lyman, has a very deep v which folds flat and a flat leaf with no "v" of any sort , but a white diamond which points to center. Both fold flat.
The tang sight as described earlier is a lyman that attaches to the bolt release on the left. My guess is that the sight with the diamond is to realign the peep, as it has to be raised to remove the bolt. That front sight is a 3/8 dovetail
What is on the rifle now is certainly American. I can't imagine Mauser setting it up the way it is, but than again it is a commercial rifle in an American caliber (marked "us govt06".)

The Lyman that is attached to the bolt release is probably a Lyman 35.
If it is in good shape, could be worth $300 or so by itself. Very desireable sight.
Unfortunately, the stock wood has to be let out a little beneath the bolt release so removing it would reveal this cut.

I would like to see some pictures too!

Working on the pictures. I have never been great at the before and after shots. Most of the time I would rather forget what it used to look like.
That Lyman sight has some corrosion as well but for the most part I have managed to stone it off without removing the text. It should blue up nicely and at least look better than before.
There is a small relief cut in the stock below the sight but surprisingly it is smaller than the cuts found on right mounted peep sights.
The barrel is cleaning up well. I'm still trying to figure out how they made it. Everything is integral and it possible that the entire contour (except the rib and the original flats) were cut by hand but I somehow doubt it.
All of the horn is in need. The grip cap is a disaster and the butt is delaminating. It should work out alright.
I'll post some shots.

You can see the pitting on the bolt. The action was the same.

I plan on having the text on the reciever recut.

is in good shape.

Actually Altamaha, the stock is identical to what you see above. No shadowline on the cheek piece and cut for iron sights. The foreend tip is a piece of horn which was sleeved over the stock. Probably.125 thick all around but fortunately that is in good condition. Only one small blem on the forearm behind the checkering.

I already started to take off metal on the reciever, but before I remove the rest of the pitting I wanted to take a copy of the text
