Yes, I am pretty sure you can. You should match up the DR Calibre to the shotgun gauge which I think you have done anyway.

Sounds like you are buying new which makes it easier as you can order it from scratch.

Much harder to add barrels at a later stage (due to having to send gun back to have them fitted)

Check out the price of a second set! ONe for my Chapuis would have been as much or more than another very nice, complete SG.

You CAN get a set of shotgun barrels for your DR BUT, it will be a compromise. First, the shotgun version will be very butt heavy and in general will weigh more than a shotgun, so don't expect it to be the lively double shotgun your thinking of. Also, the cost of the extra barrels themselves will rival if not exceed the cost of a new double barrel shotgun. Just some things to consider.

I'm not sure on The safari version but on The 9.3 version you Get 20gauge for 22 000kr in norway, thats around 2000-2500 dollar.
And you can Get combination barrel "cape gun" for 33 000kr in norway, thats 5000-5500 dollar Hehe, and then its 20gauge and from 6x65r-9.3x74r i Think.

So you dont Get 12 gauge on The smaller merkel.

Great idea BUT often quite a bit of $$$. As I have to scrounge for mine I always seem to drop this idea once prices are worked out.

The Safari models 140-2, 375 H&H to 500NE are made on a 20 ga size action, and the 140E-1 with the larges chambering being 9.3X74R is also made on the 20 ga action. The newer 141E is made on a 28 ga action with the largest chambering being 9.3X74R.

With your 140 Merkel I think you will have to settle for a pair of 20Ga 3 Inch barrels or 20 ga combined with a rifle of 9.3X74 or smaller.

Could be wrong because Merkel has come out with some new things lately!
