I know this gun. Exquisite engraving.
It shot quite well with the same load I use in my Gibbs '92 (Steyr) bolt action.

Pato-

I'll look up my 160gr round nose soft loads for you.
This will be what I run in my Jeffrey Mannlicher.
Sarg has been running some cupro-nickel solids I turned him onto also, hopefully he can dig up his loads.
I use WW .303brit brass run through 6.5mannlicher dies in a 303 shell holder then trimmed.
Runs great.
Hold tight till I find my recipe.

Show us some photos of your rifle!

Cheers
Tinker

Have to search my loads records.

160gr RN Hornady is what I was using, but I recently found out they stopped production.

These are/were a pile of Vic vintage solids.
You'd need a time machine.

They're out there though, comb through the auctions for vintage ammunition with the old solids.

They will penetrate pretty much anything.

Sorry it took so long. Can't find a thing.

160gr Hornady RN.
32.5gr AR2206H

For some reason it shot better with the faster powder.

Folks ,

I have two rifles in the 256 express ( 6.5 x 53R ) . One is like the prior mentioned Gibbs 1892 Steyr take-down , and the other an 1897 Westley Richards New Model . The loading I use is the 160 gr Hornady round nose pushed by 39 grains of VV N-560 . Very accurate in both rifles and has a predicted chamber pressure with QuickLoad of 38,246 psi , velocity of 2400 feet per second and an estimated muzzle energy of 2073 foot pounds . I also heard that Hornady was no longer making this bullet , too bad , a great cross sectional density and penetration . I have had a number of white tail deer down with this round even at up to 130 yards , single rounds . Thanks , Jim

Sierra makes a 160gr. with slightly more semi-round nose shape. It's the bullet my daughter uses in her .260 Rem.- with 33gr. H4895. Elbow rested on a table top using a 4X scope, she made a 1 1/2", 10 shot group at 100 meters with that load. 8 of the ten were in an inch. She couldn't understand my excitement overher group.

The target was a black paper deer silhouette with fixed aiming point. I simple said, kill the deer. It would have died very quickly with the first shot & every other owne as well.

The Sierra is a good bullet, I'm sure, although we've not had the pleasure of sticking a deer with one. There is no cannelure for crimping so a Lee Factory Crimp die must be used and it has a long full diameter body, unlike the Hornady. Seating more deeply is required in her rifle due to that.
