Well I got up at 3.30am again this morning with the sound of rain on the roof. Thought about rolling over and going back to sleep.
I grabbed "Duke" and "George" ,the Zastava 9.3 and headed off to one of my favorite pig chasing area's about 30 kms away. It rained the whole way. Unloaded the bike, collared up the dogs and waited for the sun to come up. Got onto some pigs in the lignum, here is the first one.
 By fatboy404 at 2012-01-28
I then spotted this mob of pigs from about 1km away. Thought they were all suckers but there were a couple of goodin's as well.
By fatboy404 at 2012-01-28 Here is some of the better pigs. Didn't have time for action shots and didn't get photo's of them all as it was full on.

By fatboy404 at 2012-01-28 It was propper wet to say the least. First time I thought I needed a bigger bike because it was heavy going on the paddock.
By fatboy404 at 2012-01-28 Here is George (I think)
By fatboy404 at 2012-01-28 When I had got most of that mob and was taking photo's I saw two more mobs going acroos the stubble (another 20 - 30 I recon) but I would not of covered the 1km in time to catch them before they got to the lignum so left them for another day.
 By fatboy404 at 2012-01-28
I ended up with 17 this morning. Now I have some gun cleaning to do.

That objective lens reminds me of a late winter night a couple years ago, running over Donner Pass in my '75 Ramcharger. It was dumping snow, front glass was a mess, no washer fluid, wipers weren't working, and I had to piss. Guess how I cleared the windshield.

We don't plant wheat here until the first week in May so they will be long gone.
He will be happy for the 31 pigs gone from his place over the weekend.

Looks like fun. Do you folks down under have the same sort of wild pig problems that we do in the states?

We do mate.
Here where I am they do a lot of damage to crops and they can take a lot of lambs if the season is tough.
Where I got these pigs the cocky doesn't let anyone on before the ewe's lamb (August)as to not disturb them. At this time he poisons the sh%t out of his place and that holds them for 6 weeks until he lets us back on hunting.

Geezuz, well done!
Can see why you got that 9.3 for sure. Take much time to clean the rifle+scope of mud? Didn't get bogged at all? The mud annoys me too much, almost lost a shoe trying to get at the indian mynas on friday morning out near work in the fields. Well, it came off, and had to hop back to avoid getting sock muddy. Turns out putting all the weight on the other foot makes it go in too. gah.
Cheers, Troy.

I came home, hosed the rifle off and wiped it down with a wet rag, blew it off with the compressor, removed it from the stock, flushed it with " fouling blaster" ,blew it off with the compressor again, oiled and reassembled it.
The joys of a $500 rifle.

$275.00 9.3x57 M96 or $325.00 9x57, 9.3x57 or 9.3x62 M98's, all Husky's would make a good hog rifles, too.
Damn - I know hogs are bad news, but sometimes I wish we had them for a problem, instead of these bloody big wolves. At least the hogs aren't killing off your deer and goats. I do suspect them might get the odd fawn or kid, though.
Being able to go out and slay a whack of them for some farmer, instead of maybe getting one elusive wolf every 2 years, would be good stuff indeed.

Still want a Husky '98 in 9.3.
The pigs are a fun way to use your bigger rifles more often.

Aya FB,
I use an FN Colombian contract Mauser, New Douglas barrel to original 30-06 but at 21 inches in a crappy glass stock. Finish is parkerised courtesy of the old RAN gun wharf workshop. New irons and Talley QDs. Works for me in the slush.
