BigFiveJack

Do a search on this forum (ie the whole of NE) as
Victor Sarasqueta's have been discussed before.

Other factors in Value
Bore condition
Ejector or Extractor
Barrel Length

Some Victor Sarasqueta's were very good - ie had build quality,
some didn't and looked very "cheap". You should be able to tell
from looking at how everything fits together.

I would put it in the same league as Used Mid end Boxlock 470's
by Middle tier English makers.

PS -I have a Victor Sarasqueta's 375H&H Sidelock so have done
some research. Do your homework before buying it and definately
don't pay big $'s for it even if it is a Sidelock, it is in a different
league (lower) than English and other Sidelocks.

The ones imported into the US in the early 60's were not very good. Made too cheaply in calibers that they should have avoided. Mostly rimless because of the ammo issue.

You have to look it over carefully and/or have someone who knows Doubles check it over.

The ones with the English scroll engraving were their best quality guns and were excellent for the money. The game scene guns were their lesser quality guns. They made the lesser quality in rimless rounds up to 375 H&H, which was about at the limit for the lesser gun.

In good condition one in 470 will sell for around $8,000.00-$9,000.00. Spanish guns are a hard sell, however.

What do you reckon?

Cheap heap of rubble or anything like worth the price?

I have handled a couple of Spanish doubles and heard a fair bit more and as they say above quality varies hugely. I certainly wouldnŽt buy any Spanish double rifle sight unseen without being able to handle and shoot it but if it is "right" then at that price youŽd have to say it was a buy. JMO, best, Mike
