Teasers for pelagics
      #199404 - 14/01/12 08:38 AM

Hello Folks,

Have you any information on building homemade teasers, particularly for dolphin (mahi mahi)? I'll be trolling ballyhoo, but would like to troll some homemade lures too. Any information on teasers or lures for dolphin and tuna would be appreciated. (Fishing the Gulf Stream off of Cape Hatteras on a budget.)

Also, if you know of any active forums dedicated to offshore fishing for pelagic species I would like to hear about them.

Thanks.

Take care, Tom

We never troll teasers for dolphin. For white and blue marlin mainly. You can make a nice teaser out of a smaller boat fender and heavy heavy egg sinker. Paint it to look like a bonito(blue/silver). Im across the bay from you on the eastern shore of va in wachapreague and run a charter boat there. Check out tidalfish.com and look on the virginia forum and the offshore board hope this helps.

I saw this somewhere

A Brunswick bowling ball PIN. Cut a 'V' for the mouth on the bottom, put a eye bolt into the mouth. Take nylon twine- cut into 12 to 14 inch stripis and tie them onto the the Top of the pin for the tail. Leave it plain or paint it any color you like. Ive built several, and have used them inshore trolling to the canyons with great sucess. You can obtain them at alleys when they are being replaced.

This seems pretty good to me too.
