Polish Gunmaker Building Double rifles

I don't know anything about this gentleman but he does have a nice website with illustrations of the double rifles, combination guns and bolt action rifles that he builds.

Any of our members who know more about him are welcome to give more information.

Good hunting!

The snap action hammer stack combination gun with back action locks is awesome!!

I have an old girlfriend with family in Poland and I've been invited to visit numerous times - here's another good reason...

Yes, John, I thought that combination called for a medal.

I've been to Poland a few times in the early 90s and I live in an European-dominated community here in Chicago, with a lot of Polish neighbors. One of them even got his FFL recently. Wonderful people and they are invariably pro gun and hunting.

The 375 double with octagon barrels is to die for. May not be traditional but who cares it's beautiful. The case hardening colors on the mausers is exquisite.

since 1990 I have been living part time in Poland and hunting in two Polish hunting clubs. I speak fluent Polish. The post comunist era has shown great economic growth with a lot of "new" business men doing their best to show their dollars, one of the more prominent ways to show off, is to have custom guns and double rifles built in Poland. Szymkowiak is one of several in this business.
The reputation is not really at the level of say German producers and most times the guns are refitted with a set of barrels.

Generally gun prices are VERRY high in Poland. The truble of Importing guns from Germany makes it little attractive for the average Polish hunter to go shopping in Europe, so they are often stuck with guns imported by the official dealers at verry high prices.

I have never seen a double rifle built by Szymkowiak, and i have never seen any reports as to the precision or second hand value of one. The roumor says that the barrels are produced in germany and only the final fitting is done in Poland....

Granhaven,

Thank you for your post. Do post about the other Polish gunmakers than Szymkowiak as well when you find time. Quality could vary between countries and even between gunmakers in individual countries. That, of course, does not detract from the fact that the more the number of successful gunmakers, the better it is for our sport. The use of German barrels is also fine - it shows that the Polish trade is choosing good quality.

Personally, I keep telling myself (though this is an apples to oranges argument) that there has to be some gunmaking talent in Poland - after all, the Brevex Mauser actions which are still extremely desirable were designed and made by a Polish immigrant to France - M Polonsky.

Thank you again for your comment and good hunting!

The .375 is lovely, yes. So long as you avoid looking that ele in the eyes... It looks like his grandmother did things against nature with an owl!
