Early Type B (Type C?) in 6.5 mm
      #197722 - 24/12/11 03:46 PM

Here is an early Type B or possibly Type C in 6.5mm. Serial number is 2951 and the receiver ring is marked "Waffenfabrik Mauser Oberndorf A/N 1901". The left receiver wall is not marked in any way and there are no caliber markings on the exterior of the gun. Under the barrel it is marked only "6,5". I haven't done a chamber cast, so I don't know which 6.5 mm cartridge it is chambered for. The bolt has the long narrow gas ports like a Kurz action, but I don't know if it is a Kurz action. The sight ramp is marked 1 through 10 rather than 100 through 1000. The buttplate is marked with the early logo, but in a smaller version than I have ever seen. There is no cheekpiece, suggesting it might be a Type C, but I have seen no mention of Type C's in 6.5 mm.

Anyone have any idea what this rifle might be?

If your Mauser is "Kurz", it could be 6,5x54 Mauser too. It seems that it`s small ring and allmost all those short actions are such. The overall length of the actions should be about 8.125".

Transitional action in typical configuration (Standard length action, stock with side panels) what later would be named a Type B.

Tangent side with windgauge is a nice ad .

Typical for Type C was the stepped barrel.

The Caliber might be the 6,5 Portugese .

A very rare item .
Congrats

I canīt see any real side panels in mckinneys stock, just a normal back curve which is typical for some Mauser sporster stock models.

Name it as you like.
Perhaps one could say a partial side panel.

That type of back curve is normal exclusively on Pre WW 1 Commercial Mauser rifles.
