“Father & Son” through the eyes of ‘Les O’Rourke’s camera'
      #197432 - 21/12/11 06:09 PM

For those who followed the construction of my pair of Custom CZ550’s, one is in 30.06 and the other .375H&H by what I believe are some of Australia’s best firearm artisans namely.:

Alex Beer (Gunsmith), Ross Waghorn (Stock Maker), Ron Croxon (Engraver)Rodger Vardy ( Stock Timber) and without Graeme Spraggon I could not have used the wonderful Recknagel products to such a degree.

Well Mr Les O’Rourke is a professional photographer who has been involved with the firearm scene for many years and has been responsible for many of the photographs used in quality publications including the Double Rifle Bible “ Shooting the British Double Rifle” by Graeme Wright.

In mid 2011 I asked Mr Les O’Rourke to photograph “Father & Son” so that the true beauty and workmanship can be truly seen and shared, Hence, this article.:

So please enjoy this workmanship as much as I do.

“Father” CZ550 .375H&H

“Son” CZ550 30.06

Both together.

Details on Rifles.

I hoped you all enjoyed,

Cheers,

Jeff Gray

I think Jeff that you may need to get them out and have them gain a few 'field handling marks' then have the photo shoot done again mate... a good excuse to get back to the dark place.

Hi Gryphon,

I took them both to Africa but every time we spotted the required game I had the 30.06 in my hands and it took them all with no problems, exactly as Fatboy 404 said it may go, he said 'Don't plan the rifle to the game' it may not happen that way, he was right.

Cheers,

Jeff Gray

That is an awesome display of fine rifles and superb photography Jeff. You have immortalised the craftmanship available here in Oz.

I hope you submit those photos to a magazine.

Hi John,

I told the story of their construction here on NitroExpress and one might say that this is the 'Finally' so to speak.

Cheers Mate,

Jeff

John-

That small extra turret looks like the leupold ballistic chart.
Basically a blank reel of tape-measure tape on which you can record your load's trajectory for future reference.

Cheers

Hi Tinker,

You are 100% correct, as when you get a little older your memory is not that of a teenager regretfully and every bit of help is a bonus,

Hi John,

Thanks for adding the 'Links' to the construction story, I hope that it will give the incentive to our Australian brothers and sisters to 'Dream' and then have our 'Artisans' build their 'Dream' also.

Cheers,

Jeff Gray

Jeff, Those are a pair of the nicest rifle that I've ever seen! (At least those with one barrel)

Congratulations in choosing some of the finest craftsman to sculpt them!

Great rifles, great pics. Can only see one thing wrong , the bolt handles are on the wrong side. Hope they bring you much enjoyment.

Absolutely.

Jeff they are exquisit looking rifles, the photos do justice to the workmanship that has gone into them. I hope you have many memorable hunts with them.

P.S. What is under the hinge of the pistol grip cap?

Gentlemen,

I thank you all for the positive responses given, I am but the 'Humble' owner of these beautiful firearms and the real credit goes to those who made them.

They will become 'Heritage' items for my Son on my demise but hopefully they will see a lot more hunting before that.

Cheers for now,

Jeff Gray
