New Zeiss binoculars?
      #196150 - 09/12/11 02:39 AM

Apparently Zeiss will have 2 major announcements in January and March 2012, one of which I have been led to believe will be a new flagship range....

I wouder if that means the remaining stock of the Victory range will be reduced in price. I could then drool over the new range and possibly pick up another of the antiquated range.

Every company has major announcements in Jan and March because of the shows that are on then. Free publicity in the show newspapers and at the start of the year for the magazines.

This is true, but the Zeiss announcement is anticipated because the Victory FL range has been around since 2005. Well by me anyway, because I'm looking for a new binocular!

Maybe.

If you waited for every announcement / new product to replace the old model range, you'll be waiting for ages.

No great leaps in technology that are going to change the glass world, plenty of good glass out there now.

No, but this thread proves they have achieved every marketing and sales objective they set out to achieve.

1. Those people who were looking at buying before Xmas and have seen the web page may well hold off because of it.
The sales rule is, if you can't guarantee the sale, spoil the sale of other / competitors products until you do have something to offer.

2. It brings the Zeiss name to the front again.

3. It reinforces the Zeiss name in their (the potential purchasers) minds.

4. As has occurred, the poster provided a link on a forum so now even more people go to the web site to look, thereby achieving 2 and 3 above again. And when the announcements are made, the liklihood is someone will update the thread saying so, thereby starting the whole process of 2 and 3 over again.

5. And those who register on the web site for updates
provide Zeiss with a self targeted database of potential buyers who are susceptible to marketing offers, especially special offers related to these announcements - ie trade in offer or rebate on old binoculars.

They are just getting you to do half the work for them.

Very smart marketing.

Maybe Zeiss can supply one or two as prizes for this forum.

I don't think the opening poster was doing the freeloader advertiser thing, just posting out of interest.

Now if it was Zeiss ... but a lot of reputable companies and sellers actually don't go for the freeloader forum pest type advertising.

Agree, it wasn't my intention to imply that.

It's just the flow on effect that occurs.

"but a lot of reputable companies and sellers actually don't go for the freeloader forum pest type advertising. "

You'd be surprised how much forums are used by companies, maybe not so much using as "freeloaders" but they certainly know and use the power of forums.

Q:You'd be surprised how much forums are used by companies EQ

I agree, they surely sit back and 'monitor' the flow and have their stooges throw up a post or two here and there as it fits. And if they are not doing such they need new management!
"News" is as suggested by Nigel often released as it suits them.
Bit like the car industry...new models are spotted and photographed in out of the way places during testing..amazing that!
I`m not suggesting however that this applies to NE of course.
The gun/hunt writers all over the world keep their eye in on the main net hunting forums also.
A couple of big names in Oz check into NE as per usual to 'get the feel'

"And if they are not doing such they need new management !"

Agree absolutely.

You can sometimes tell when something is being seeded, not often but it does occur.

Same as usedguns is used by certain companies to "highlight" product, especially new product and especially guns. This has been confirmed to me by a number of people.

In any case, why wouldn't you use the forums, it's a damn good marketing tool, a damn sight cheaper than full page colour advertising and often can be kept going and going and going where you end up with thousands looking at it.
