Moosehunting
      #195156 - 28/11/11 08:54 PM

We did some Moose hunting on saturday. I had a friend and his 15 year old son with me. In Sweden when you are 15 you are allowed to shoot under supervision. We still had a bull, a female and some calves on the license. There were several Mooses , some Wildbores and plenty of Fallow deers in the area. One of the dogs caught up with this bull and took him to the boy at his stand. He shot it on 35 metres with one shot. He used a Husqvarna 1900, 9,3*62, Norma Alaska. He was very happy, but his father was happier!!!!

Well done to the lad, and a nice animal.

What do you do with the meat? Sell it, eat it, make sausages or a combination?

Thanks.

We are going to eat it. We are seven people renting this property south of Örebro. We split it. They are very tasty. I like it, itīs popular meat. After skinning with bones, 175 kg. Mick, what do you mean with be live or dressed? /Staffan

Super hunt!

Glad you posted.

Here, youth can hunt small game at age 10 and big game at 12. My son shot his first deer at age 12, for example.

I think Mick is asking what weight would the animal be on-the-hoof {live before gutting} and dressed/gutted.

And, great choice of rifle, too!

The weight of a full grown big swedish moose in the middle of Sweden, maybe 500 kg. They grow bigger up north S. This one isnīt that big, maybe 350-400 kg....

Was the hunter in a blind {post} of some sort or just standing or sitting on the ground?

and by the way, Skitt Jakt Sville!

Skit jakt!!!! He was standing on the ground. It was wetland with cliffs and rocks around him. It was rather hard to get it out to a road. The ATV didnīt manage to get close to it. It was 40 meters to hard ground and the 40 meters of very steep terrain where the ATV couldnīt go down. That part we managed with a gasoline-powered winch. Itīs good to have people in the hunting team, who owns everything thats sometime needed!!!!

Sounds like an elk hunt here, except for the hunting part {no dogs allowed}!!

We use our ATV's and winches, too, but sometimes getting them out is done with backpack and lots of time and sweat!

Good job!

Congratulations to the lad, First Moose - way to go.

Here's one being cut up for packing out along with the head and cape. when you get their cloths off, it's easy to see there's "lots of eating".

This was a fairly large animal with puncture wounds all over him, a dominant bull in that area.

There are bigger ones waiting for you, but now the really big ones are dropping their antlers.

The dude on the right is skinning with a bowie knife. Now that's a big knife! It looks like one anyway.

From looking at a wapiti they look like they carry lots of meat, now a moose is even more.
