Hello, I'm always messing but this debate a bit, the fact is that the 458 Lott seems underpowered and reading many forums post Americans in which the members choose to buy rifles more powerful cartridges, many of them Unfortunately banned in Spain. I'm thinking of changing my Ceska 550 Safari Magnum in referred by another Ceska but the 450 Rigby cartridge , because I want the 500 Jeffery but, this cartridge is considered of war by the absurd Spanish law. What do you think?
Oscar.

CZ-USA produce the 404 Jeff, 500 Jeff & 505 Gibbs (not sure if there is a 450 Rigby version) - they fit local barrels and stocks and do bedding. CZ only produce the more run of the mill 375H&H mag, 416 Rigby and 458WM. I think also CZ-USA do the conversion to 458Lott on the standard 458WM - some are double stamped with both 458WM and 458Lott.
We were wondering when you were going to get bored with the 458Lott

The .458 Lott is definitely not under-powered for anything on Earth.
However a .450 Rigby or even better a .500 Jeffery is also very nice. The .500 is certainly a step up in effectiveness.
Have fun.

I wish I had a 500 Jeffery, but Spanish law is absurd and considers the cartridges with a diameter of 12.5 mm or greater and has slot in the shorts and war. However, the 500 Nitro Express is having prohbido rim, but is definitely an express rifle out of my reach.Thank you both for your response.
Oscar.

Hate to rub it in, but this is what you are missing out on:

Insert yourself in the picture and replace the 500NE with a 470NE. I didn't think I could afford a double either, but it happened.

I observe that this rifle has a major setback. You say that fires the cartridge 470 Nitro Express?, I do not want to imagine the reverse of the same weapon with the 500 NE

It is a 500NE. Shooting a 470NE gives the same sort of reaction - I thought it was easier (legal-wise) to own a 470 over there.
Are you sure all 50 cals are banned there? Over here in QLD only the 50BMG round is discouraged from private ownership - a 50BMG rifle is in the same licence category as a machine gun, but otherwise there is no calibre limit for rifles (I think). I guess at some point it becomes ordanance though.

This is what it says, the Spanish law on weapons:
1 .- considered weapons of war, thus being prohibited its acquisition, possession and use by individuals:
b) Firearms or weapons systems fire size smaller than 20 mm., whose sizes are considered by the Ministry of Defense and war, which are:
"Firearms size equal to or greater than 12.7 mm. ammunition using pod slot in the shorts and flange or rim in the same place."
Firearms using the following ammunition:
Caliber 5.45 x 39.5.
Caliber 5.56 x 45 (or equivalent 223).
7.62 x 39 caliber.
7.62 x 51 Nato caliber.
No weapons of war are considered repeat those weapons that use ammo 308 Winchester bullet type or expanding type ammunition 7.62 x 39 expansive bullet for big game.
c) automatic firearms.
And more...

My joy in a well, in Spain Ceska Safari Classic rifle costs 3150 euros ($ 4.200) and me as much I can sell my Ceska Safari Magnum for about 1050 euros ($ 1.400). From what I have to save too much money to buy the rifle in 450 Rigby and I have more important expenses such as hearing aids do for my son. Finally, you can not have everything in life.

By the way Oscar, as much as I like my .458, I would still like to have a Brit-stocked 460weatherby too!

ovny could you rebarrel your CZ550 to 450Rigby. I do not know what gunsmithing charges are like in Spain but I would think it should be a lot cheaper than buying a new rifle.

In Spain not know if there dealer authorized to make such operation, also is a bureaucratic mess. In Spain, hunters and shooters are all suspects and our legislation is very restrictive in terms of weapons.

So I do not complain, for if it worsens the situation in my country. Many countries in Europe live stuck in the past regarding weapons.

I believe he was suggesting the Lott was underpowered for a T-Rex. I think we'd need one of the gun-writing 'experts' to quantify just what the required foot pounds of energy would need to be.
I dare say, o'l Ed Huble has something that would probably work - theroetically of course.
In case you weren't aware, the stuff he's playing with pretty much starts at 55 calibre as the small bore and rapidly gets larger to just over an inch - seems about everything does over 2,000fps.

I'm wondering what velocity (or RPM) it takes to shed the petals off a 350grTSX
Something about the thought of laser-beam .458 spritzers makes me giggle. They're doing pretty well at 2700+FPS as it is, but flatter and longer range with mondo energy just sounds like fun.
...if someone else is buying me the rifle and reloading components...
Cheers Tinker
