Is a Sako AV suitable for 404 Jeffery build?
      #194344 - 21/11/11 01:11 PM

I'm having bugger all of a time finding a Magnum Mauser or Model 70 Classic to use for a build. So I got to thinking about using a Sako AV I Have In 7mmRM as a candidate. Is it fairly easily doable to convert this to 404 Jeffery? Or am I better off to keep looking for something else?

I think it would be.

And in my opinion, the SAKO AV action is not only the equal, but rather...superior to the Mauser 98.

Old SAKOs are very well made rifles, the only little "thing" is uncontrolled ammo feed.

I was just about to start a new post seeking advice on using a BRNO ZKK602 action as a donor for a 404J. Have you considered that as I would have thought that there would be a few around. Hope this does not take your post off topic. Just trying to help.

Woodbeef,

I have a 404 on a standard size Model 70 from Newhaven, not a huge amount of effort to get it to work as opposed to the Magnum action which is more difficult to find for sure, a bot milled of the rear area and a new mag box you are in a good spot.

Sako certainly will work very very well though.

Regards,

MOG

Let me know if you want some help with this as Tony Small (Afro408) built my 404j on a ZKK 602.
