Boar with 338

Went for a look yesterday. Alot of water around after the first heavy rains. pushed a mob out of some mimosa dropped a boar at around 120m on the run with a barnes 185 out of the 338. raking shot and he made it about 40m . Recovered the projectile.
Chris got a small boar and a wild dog with v-grenades in his 243.
tried the hydros out in my 338 and results very impressive on paper. Cant wait to try them on buff.

Heres the recovered projectile pics. Top projectile is the one out of the boar. Traveled from in front of hip to off side shoulder, mid height of the body, broke shoulder but did not go thru the shoulder blade. Other projectiles are from boars with texas or length way shots. approx 50kgs dressed. Same load 74 grains 2213sc ( h4831) compressed. Velocity not chronographed , from book would be around 2950fps to 3000fps.
These loads are still in development. No pressure signs yet.
May go to the hydros in 225. Yet to take game with these.....

Mogs, the floodplain was starting to fill and most areas were flowing with stinking black H2S water. Went a long way out of our way to detour back to shallow water crossings.
Had trouble on the tracks getting in to the floodplain. Definitly more rain than in town.
Should improve the goose shooting. Mick

TKS .264 - they appear quite consistant at that velocity.

I'd think the ADI H4350, H4895 or Varget, H414 or W760 might deliver a more appropriate 3,200fps to 3,250fps(or more) for those light bullets - just a guess as that is what the older XLC's did and they are supposed to give similar results to the TSX's?
That should stretch out the trajectory a bit - but probably not necessary at all.

If they are accurate and kill well, that's what's important.

daryl S, Im running the 2213 loads out have already done some trial loads with 2209 (4350), getting good performance with 73-74 grains compressed. No pressure signs. 2209 has worked well for me with 250 partitions.
Have you done any loads with win 760. Thanks Mick

Sad day indeed mate, pigs will be spread out everywhere in a few weeks, could not get back out to the area I go in Arhnemland about three weeks ago!

Going to get some geeese tomorrow hopefully!

I've used W760 in the .358 NM and the .375H&H is all, Mick.

I merely noticed the normal .338 mag. slower burning powders would be running out of case room with the lighter bullets - according to the manuals. It's common to go to a faster powder for very lightweight bullets, slower powders for heavier ones. The .338 is ballanced well enough that it can easily use the intermediate powders like Varget and H4895 - with 165 through 185gr. "X" bullets.
