My snake pics made the grade
      #192201 - 20/10/11 06:12 PM

Pics I took a month or so ago got a ticket for a job.

I actually had to dispose of a threatening tiger snake yesterday at home,I will be wearing these of course and btw they are snakeproof,I have seen pics of a snake handler wearing one on his arm while a snake bites him..fark that!

Might I suggest you research the comparative length of Oz snakes fangs before buying. Thick cotton would suffice.

I`m not going into any research at all..the gaiters were tested with a Death Adder biting them.
I have nothing to do with them other than allowing the use of my photo`s.
And as far as thick cotton tell that to the multitude that have been bitten through thick jeans.
Note that most pro snake handlers "in the ring" at fairs/shows usually wear 'something substantial' under their trousers while doing the shows..i was told by one of the fellas and dont blame him when walking around all sorts slithering here and there through his legs.

Good stuff Gryph. Well done, great photos.

I wear straight out Canvas one's but then again,
I'm not chasing Sambar but do agree that you need something.

Nige you certainly dont have to be chasing sambar to wear SP gaiters, the last month and now maybe so but these gaiters are for the all round all year hunters of everything with the bonus of being SP.They will do just as well in the snow in NZ or Ireland!

Agreed.

As I said, I have 3 sets of gaiters already, knee length, lower calf length and then small one's so don't need any more.

I need to wear the full length one's more.

Well done JG. Never really worn gaiters. Perhaps its time.

Are these gaiters needed for use in the NT? I have no experiences with snakes or gaiters in my part of the world.

Lets just say if you need to question that in light of a future trip there that you may just be better off with a pair.
Keeps your eye on the ball so to speak and not seeing serp`s all over the place AkMike.
A snake can always bite over the top of them but a feeling of more security would be felt for sure by the wearer.
I have an idea that most bites are below knee height.

Only have seen one snake in the Territory at close range. A taipan I believe which slithered with a metre of us unconcerned when we were butchering a young water buffalo for meat.

Also a harmless python which we accidently drove over on a track.

However they are probably a good idea for hunting in high grass.

Nice pictures. I wonder how these compare to TurtleSkin? I have a set of their gaiters that I use for hunting upland birds in early season. Closest I have come to a snake hunting has been getting out of the truck and having a prairie rattler about a foot away trying to slither off, it wasn't hostile due to it being a cold morning.
