OK, Ben's been making me jealous with his tales of his 450/400Ruger #1. Now, I couldn't settle for such a small caliber, so I got the Boddington 450 NE. Also bought some Hornady 480gr DGX ammo.

Shot four shots.

The bruise should go away in a week or two.

Weighed the gun - under 8 lb!

Now, other than Magnaport and mercury recoil reducers, any ideas? This thing kicks worse than my old Searcy .577. My Ruger Hawkeye 416 has a Magnaport brake and is a pleasure to shoot.

BTW: Nyati Inc. (www.nyatiinc.com) makes reduced loads for every dangerous game caliber. Ed Hammond, owner, just sent me some 300 and 350 gr ammo that crony's out at 1300 fps instead of the Hornady 2150 fps. I'll shoot some soon and report.

I should be able to finish mine, (a re chambered 458) in Dec. The neat thing about a single shot is that you can use any bullet made to reduce recoil. Lighter the better. Try 350 Hornady RN like I use in my Searcy DR. for the 75% Rule.

350gr. .458" Hornady RN's make excellent moose and elk bullets if driven around 2,300fps or less. They worked well for me on moose when using the .458 2" @ 2,290fps.

Hey, good stuff! The .450/.400 3" NE is indeed one of the most gentle-but-still-big-and-deadly cartridges around... very little recoil. Good luck with your .450NE!
