Sako Finnwolf Lever actions
      #42599 - 30/11/05 10:53 AM

I am interested in acquiring a Sako Finnwolf preferably in .308 or maybe a .243.

I know they have not been made in a long time. If one of each was obtainable, in a good or as new condition, what would they be worth?

Here in the US when you come across them they are usually in the $900-$1,200 range. I had one in .308 a few years ago and traded it and a little money for the Winchester 88's one in .358 and one in .284. The biggest thing here is simply finding one for sale.

Nitrox

Not sure whether you found one but there is one for sale in NZ at the moment.

Didn't realise they were worth this much !! Admittedly, it is a commemorative model and supposedly mint.

I go to gun shows here in the states somewhat regularly and have yet to see one. I think they're going to be difficult to find.

NitroX,

In all the years I've been haunting gun shops and shows, I believe I have seen a total of 2. Both in 308. You will pay more then your average condition Savage 99, but not a lot more. I would expect $650 range, if you can find one.

Check out Someone had a sako collection up for sale in central NSW. Finwolf 243 was among them. Might be too late now though.

OK. I am more interested in a .308 though a .243 might be interesting if the price is right. A.243 LA in a great rifle like that would be nice.

There was a dude on those forums whom advertised a pair of Finnwolf .243s and .308s about a year ago at a reasonable price. I telephoned and emailed him. He named a price and I said YES IT IS A DEAL and also asked for "his brother's" (the actual owner) contact details, photocopy (or fax) of his licence and registration etc ie I was not going to send a cheque off just to some unknown 'seller'. He came back after a while and said his "brother" wanted a better price "than I had offered"! I said "what's going on, you named the price and now you are trying to increase it". I had commited and expect the 'seller' to live up to his end. I probably was willing to pay a little more or buy only one but really expect a deal to be honoured. He got rude and disappeared. Have never seen him there again.

My thoughts:

1. Was it a scam. He didn't seem to happy to have to provide a copy of the firearms licence and registration (ie proof it actually existed and tracable contact details).

2. It was a fishing expedition to find out the "investments" value and not a serious sale.

Either way it was someone whose word could not be trusted and I have certainly marked down the clown in case he ever re-surfaces. When you make a deal it is a deal in my book.

Too many crooks on the 'net.

I know it's been awhile but I noticed that there is a .308 and a .243 available at Cabelas.

.308 Finnwolf

.243 Finnwolf

Bill

P.S.- The .243 is just down the road from me. I can cruise by and look at it if you are interested.

Thanks Bill.

I probably wouldn't go to the effort of importing them from the USA to Australia as the price difference needs to be sizable for that to pay. If I can source one locally then good. I saw a .243 advertised recently.

Hi Nitrox
Did you see the the Finnwolfs in the Australian arms auction in October. I remembered this post after I saw the auction results.

http://www.australianarmsauctions.com/catalogue_online_1.htm

Items 486 & 487 which went for $1900 & $1700 respectively.
Regards
Rick

Thanks. 487 looked interesting, as I would be interested in a .308 not a .243. The estimated price would have been good! But the actual price is the usual market price. Some guys however want a lot more sometimes.

However it is not a priority at the moment due to funds.
