Crocodile King

Watching Crocodile King on the National Geographic Channel while having lunch.

An 18 foot Saltie is looking for his lunch also. He lines up on a wallaby, then submerges and does his thing.

Hmm. 40 feet per second coming out of the water to snatch the wallaby.

Note to self: If I ever make it to the land down under, I will stay at least 100 feet from water.

Nope, changing this to 100 yards.

It is a wonder you folks do not have more humans killed by crocs!!!

Edit: Now one of the salties grabbed a Dingo. Fast lizards!

A few do get taken every year, they just don't all make the papers.

Even that is barely enough.

A mate of mine was with someone else, both Rangers had come up the river from the sea in a boat, they had seen this croc that seemed to be following them. Anyway, they lost it and went up river
quite a long way. pulled up, set up camp etc quite some distance from the river.

The croc had followed them, found the boat, walked up the bank to where they were and grabbed him round the waist while sleeping and then tried to drag him back to the water.

His mate managed to get the croc to let go.

Scars front and rear, the Croc head looks even better !!!

Now the crocs are headed to a small man made dam on a river to feast on mullet dropping over the dam on a high (king) tide.

This place looks like the photos previously posted here of the crazy fishermen standing waist deep in water.

Jesus! Scores of crocs in the water, some giants. They are just waiting at the foot of the dam for fish to hit their teeth. Night photos show lots of 'em with jaws open.

Walk across the dam and slip into the water and you would be croc dinner.

Saw that on TV while back - really something to see - seemed like hundreds of crocs and mullet filling the crocs faces.

They are trying to get an exclusive swim club started here up North, there will be no joining Fee, the club will teach people to swim in open water, rivers and dams, there is only one problem though, it has a membership restriction and only boat people, terrorists and Muslims are allowed to join...

a bit unfair I thought...

A salties reactions are 9 time faster than mans, so I am told by croc experts. Bit daunting. Hiowever if you follow a few simple rules you should be OK. Don't go to the same spot to fish, or get water. Camp well clear of the water. Use different spots, dont swim and take notice of warning signs. These are kust a few precautions to take.

But the Funnel web spiders and crazy Tiger Snakes that chase you are more of a problem.

Don't forget the Drop bears.

Sneaky aggressive little buggers, drop on you fro above,
rip your head and face open with those claws and then they are off into the night.

My uncle and his family saw that crossing with the crocs in action a couple of weeks ago.

The uncle of one of my former students got taken on the Daly a few years ago.

Tourists form a steady diet for crocs, or would if the crocs could. I remember a large pond under one of the waterfalls in Kakadu where foreign backpackers were swimming across the deep pond to sit in the waterfall and climb up the sheer cliff to sit in little caves. Even though it was very hot and the water looked lovely no way was I going to enter that water that far North. Rangers supposedly scout for slides on the banks but who knows what has entered the water since? No for me.

Did some stupid things when younger but not now.
