You're going to need to let us know when you wander up to the big city. We just had a few DRSS members shooting DR's at Birchwood today. 500/450, 450 Ne's 450/400,45-70.9.3X74R's,but none of the big strappers came out to play.

No, it's in England and I'm in Alaska. It will be awhile before it gets here.

There are many on here with MUCH more experience on shooting doubles..but the ones I have shot, with the exception of a merkel, the kick was not really much different than a .470...which makes it again, really appealing for a double caliber..

I haven't fired one yet. I now have two coming over in the next shipment, a custom ruger and the krieghoff.

Can anyone give me a clue as to what weight/velocity this would have been regulated for?

The standard load is 570 grain bullet @ ~2150 fps.
I would wager it shoots Hornady factory loads fine, though it may have been regulated for Wolfgang Romey (probably).

Mike, What powder do you want to use? H4350, RL-19, RL-15? I have Mr Wirghts book here ans will give you his suggested loads if you want.

Mike I have the second and third editions as well. I'll have to see what's available locally and go from there. It'll be 3 to 5 months before they arrive here. Have to do the paperwork and find someone that is importing a shipment that I can include these in.

Get in touch with Mike Jines over at AR he has a Krieghoff 500NE and he shoots that thing like a target rifle! He’s a 500NE nut and will give you his loads, and I can vouch for their accuracy at least in his rifle! His E-mail is; mjines@live.com <mjines@live.com>
By the way congratulations on your new double! I’ll bet the moose and Brownies are in for some fun !

Great rifle, I hope it speaks well for you.
I have the same rifle in .470, and other than that I (sometimes) wish that it had ejectors, I've always been happy with it.
Is that a stock photo or is that the actual rifle that you bought?

It's the actual rifle that I bought. I doubt that I'll miss ejectors as I hate them on my SxS's.

I have the 500NE in a Merkel. You'll love it. I find the recoil to be similar to the 470. My load is 101.5 grns of H380 with a 570 gr bullet. Gives 2120 fps in my 24 inch barrel. You made a great decision in the caliber!
