Like I said, great work Colin. AND...nicely documented too! My questions were not intended to cause any consternation...like I said---"Just asking..." I thought I had been through all of the videos--mayhaps have missed a couple. I will retrace my steps....!!

Thanks for the work done in documenting this...It will be a real help for anyone wondering about a "build"....like me for instance!!!

DoubleRifle999,

I apologize if I came across a little blunt, that wasn't my intention at all. If I didn't explain it well enough in the video please feel free to ask and I will try to explain it better.

This weeks video doesn't show any new work on the SxS rifle, instead it show the companion piece that is for the same customer. The 2 Bore Muzzleloading Pistol.

Colin - hope you don't mind, I posted the pistol's address in 'over the back fence' at the alr forum - just because.

Colin....you proofed at 300 gr. IIRC and then test fired by hand at 100 gr. FFg.....What do you think a "normal" load for that beast will be?? I guess maybe as much as you can stand?!?!?!

Hand cannon for sure!

The recessed chamber holds 100gr FFg, so the minimum is 100 just to be sure there is no gap between the ball and powder, as far as maximum goes, in theory you could load it to rifle charges but it would recoil enough to break a normal man and a huge amount of powder would be just blown out the front and wasted. I really don't know how high a guy could take it before it became injurious or even possibly dangerous, but the barrel and breech would handle about any charge you could fit in it and still seat a bullet on it.

I don't plan to find out either, I need my wrists so I can keep working on the Rifle.

Ha Ha!! I understand!! It was mostly a rhetorical question anyway. I don't know, I am just having difficulty wrapping my brain around a 2 bore. And a pistol at that..!!??!! I hunt with handguns (and a couple of them are real hand cannons---as JD Jones was want to say..), but I think this one has the potential to really hurt you. I am glad it is not me testing it!!

As my wife is found of saying "patience is a virtue, embrace it if you can, often in a woman and seldom in a man". It's always a temptation to rush when things start looking like they are getting done. But slow and steady is what counts at this point.

Colin-

Great colors, really nice looking job there.
Can't wait to see how it looks in the wood.

Has your client asked for alkanet in the stain for an old Brit red color on the wood?

Actually he decided to go with something different from the "classics", on that sample block I showed in the previous video there is a section that looks grey with a red undertone. That color of stain is called "Antique Red Oak" and he decided that it would look good against the color case hardening and be completely unique and different than anything else in his gun cabinet. We discussed the possible ramifications of that color finish on the phone and he decided that he really wants a unique finish that is different for this rifle.

I've used that stain in combination with other stains to achieve a certain look but I've never used it as a stand alone color so I'm kind of interested to see how it turns out.

Thanks Colin - the explanation on colour casing was VERY well done. Nice job.

I really like your die and method as well. I have an old single stage manual short throw 60 or more year old 16 bore shotshell loader that I bought at a Gun Show for $5.00 that does a similar job, especially the crimp cap just as you've shown. I will now turn a better one, now that I've seen yours.

TKS again.

I wish I could claim the idea for the reloading tool but it's a slightly modified version of an original field reloading set.

Sorry guys, NO video this week. I had a really bad week and only got about 5 minutes worth of video shot. The reloading tools are all built and I started casting balls to load these cartridges up. But overall my week was pretty bad, the Head Gasket blew on my wife's minivan, so I wasted a day and a half diagnosing why it was overheating and then my mechanic gave me the wonderful news that the repair would be $1,300.00. Well the van isn't worth 1300 so I decided I should try to track down another vehicle for her. That wasted another day in Lincoln NE and came home empty handed. Then I tried getting some casting done and the power company decide that would be a good day to have the power out for several hours at a time. Then I resumed the hunt for a vehicle, found a really nice truck today about an hour south of us, went and test drove it, decided to buy it(cash sale, private seller). He was very honest and up front about the truck and warned me that one of the front tires was about to go. He didn't have a spare for it, so I decided to try and baby it home...you guessed it...blew the tire 40 miles from home. So now I get to waste some more time tomorrow trying to get a new tire put on the rim and then go back to where I left the truck and get it. New tire mounted on a Sunday in Washington, Kansas...I might get lucky and talk my tire guy into opening his shop for a short while tomorrow but then again pigs might sprout wings and fly too. I'll just have to wait and see how either one of those turns out.

In any case it's been a bad week overall, with little to no video to show you, so I will just save it for next week.

Sorry about the low resolution quality but these longer videos are very large files in higher resolution and my ISP's speed just takes to long to upload them.

Good video, Colin. I load my round ball loads quite similarly, but instead of using hand tools, I revert to the bench tool for the jobs of de-priming, priming, wad seating and crimping.

Well done.

Thanks guys, I'm glad you are enjoying the videos.

Daryl_S,

Unfortunately the 2 Bore brass doesn't fit in any of my presses(or anyone else's commercial press for that matter) and I haven't been motivated enough to build a custom press for one cartridge that I don't even own a rifle in. I made a set of 12 gauge and 20 gauge that work in my RCBS Rockchucker and do almost the same thing. I have a 12 Bore Roundball Double and my wife has a single shot 20 bore rifle that I load/reload brass cartridges for.

No video update this week.

My Father is ill. He is in the final stages of a terminal illness. He was in the Hospital earlier this week, we are in the process of moving him into our home. We will be caring for him through what is remaining of his days. My wife is in nursing, so hopefully with her experience and the help of our two sons and myself we can provide him with a level of comfort and care that he wouldn't get at a nursing home or care facility.

There will be no video, since I didn't even work in my shop this week.

Colin, along with everyone else on NE that has been following the great vid's you have been sharing with us on the 2 bore build I would offer a prayer for the last days for your father to be peacefull and painfree, and that being surrounded by loved family will be a blessing for him. I hope you get to tell him all those things you always wanted to (and like most of us never found the right time to do so) I spent the remaining days and especially the final hours with my father and it was one of the most staisfying and memorable times I spent with him. May you all be blessed and comforted in the days ahead.
