Actually this one will have a lot less felt recoil than the single shot. The single weighed 24 pounds finished weight...the barrels and monoblock currently weigh 31.5 pounds by themselves. Add in the action, locks, wood, recoil reducers in the stock, ribs, etc...this one might actually be shootable even with a full 700gr load. A guy won't be able to hold it up for more than a few seconds but it should handle the recoil.

I don't know what the load will be, that will be determined by the best load that produces the best accuracy from both barrels...it's also somewhat up to the customer how much of a load he wants me to regulate it for.

I cannot imagine it. It will be similar to firing our 1 1/2" cannon - from your shoulder. I just can't imagine it. Evenw ith all it's weight, it bellows and bucks, even with only 800gr. of 1F powder.

For a while now I've been trying to be consistent with my updates and post them on Saturday afternoon/evening when I am done working for the week. BUT tomorrow I will be busy all day with livestock and farm work(it's that time of year when all the newborns come and livestock needs to be moved out to pastures). So this week you get the update a day early.

Amongst the facinating machining and hand fitting, the regulating wedges was the bit that answered the question for me this week.

Thank you for the compliments, glad I could help with better understanding how a double rifle is built.

One of these days...I need to try and find out how the Merkel 141 "Petite" regulation wedge is put together because it is fully adjustable but still retains the classic looks of a double rifle. It doesn't have the outside ring look like the Bakails(sp?) have on their muzzles.

I didn't get as much done as I had wanted to this week. Tuesday my Father ended up in the Hospital needing a blood transfusion. Then Wednesday I took him down to Topeka to see a Specialist. Thankfully he is home now and after several more transfusions is feeling much better. BUT that was all time I was away from my shop.

My Father is doing much better this week. Other than one afternoon/evening that I was Judging a Forensics meet at the High School I managed to spend most of the week working. I still didn't get as far as I had wanted but it's progressing right along.
