Colt Government Model - #C160255 .45ACP - Made 1931
      #188773 - 29/08/11 07:58 AM

Pre-WW2 commercial Colt Government Models are scarce and highly prized. Here's one I bought this year. Made in 1931, it remains in astounding condition for its age.

Enjoy!

That is an amazing specimen. Gotta wonder who "Dan" was though.

G'Day Fella's,

Thanks again Capt Curl, another Gem from the past!

Well spotted PH Madness!
Dan was probably a person that drank to much hard liquor and thought he was an undiscovered engraver!!!

Yeah, there's another inscription just under the serial number too. I kinda figured it was the owner's kid or something. Who knows? Part of the mystique.

Looking at the photos again, I must say they don't quite do justice. The pics of the inside of the bore show some fouling. In reality the bore is absolutely perfect and like new. I should have cleaned it better before snapping the photos.

You can readily see how sharp and square the lands are. Unusual for a pistol from the days of corrosive ammo.

Don't you guys have your kids scratch their names onto all of your guns? And your car too?

500grains,

Did this pistol belong to your daddy by chance?

Curl, That is a nice 45. I wish we could buy them in California.

gatsby,

My understanding of CA law is that you are allowed anything that's on the C&R list. Any pistol over 50 years old qualifies as C&R. I have sold a couple of Colt Woodsman .22 pistols to CA buyers without a hitch (through CA FFL dealers). A very nice gent in the LA suburbs educated me on that.

Best,

You may be right as to guns more than 50 years old. I tried to have a couple Gold cups ca. the 60's brought in from out of state and was denied because they are not on the CA DOJ's approved roster list. There are many handguns unavailable to us in CA because of this list.
