Why kill man eating lion?
      #18777 - 02/09/04 01:32 AM

I have often wondered why man eating lion were/are killed. With the human population of Africa destroying forests, habitat and game, it seems that any natural curb to population expansion would be welcome. In regard to man-eating cats, I think India has a better approach.

What's Indias approach to man-eaters?

India serves them a buffet (of locals).

Of course I am just speaking figuratively, but it is extremely difficult to get the Indian government to take action on a man eating tiger or on a rat infestation of a grain warehouse.

India's a country where re-incarnation is taken seriously by many. Their hesitance to deal with the killer tigers and rats may be because they're afraid of killing their own forefathers! Thus being damned to end up as rats too when they themselves die!

I believe they do shoot maneaters in some parts of India but the job is filled by local hunters unfortunately.

I remember 5 permits being issued last year or the year before.
