5 Days and Counting.
A lot of forum members know that I am planning my first and probably the last Safari to Africa when I posted the details in ’50 Days and Counting’ well, we are now down to the final 5 days.
I have taken note of all the information and suggestions that the forum members have posted and then made my decisions.
I want to especially thank 3 members in particular for their valuable help and guidance and I am the first to admit that I had a little ‘Pressure’ applied in the form of giving this ‘Old Fella’ a polite kick in you know where to get me off my butt and “Just do it” and stop procrastinating.
The paperwork was to say the least a bit of a nightmare possibly because I have never taken firearms overseas before but thanks to the many Emails that I sent to Tophet1 all seems to now be correct but until I am actually on the plane I wont fully believe there are no more problems.
I want to also thank both Fatboy404 and Ben who in their own ways helped convince me that it was still possible to have such an adventure and as you know, Fatboy404 took his dad who was sick so I felt if he could do it, so could I and Ben’s encouragement was the clincher.
As for the packing, all is now complete but I will have to ‘Buy’ an additional 10kg excess baggage but it is the least of the overall cost of the Safari.
A lot of members suggested that I also take a Nyala as the area that we will be hunting in is a ‘Top’ area for them so a request was passed onto Chris Troskie of CT Safaris when we spoke the other night at length. God bless Skype.
The temperatures in this area to say the least ‘Sucks’ with the most rain in 30 years, thunderstorms and snow and temperatures going from –3 to12 on a good day but luckily for me it is on the rise with today’s temperature going from 1 to 20 and seems to be going to stay around the –1 to 20 for my stay.
I have arranged Travel Insurance through the S.S.A.A. who goes through QBE when it comes to a higher value on firearms which allowed me to insure my 2 Custom CZ550’s known in my stories as “Father & Son” which are snugly packed in the Pelican 1750 case.
So that about tells the story to date, I am taking two Digital Cameras and plenty of batteries and S.D. Cards just in case one camera dies or something, so until later,
Cheers for now,
Jeff Gray

Glad I could help in a small way Jeff.
All you need is rifle, ammo, paper work and camera. You can live without everything else.
They wash every day so I took one pair of boots that I wore on the plane and three sets of clothes.
I got my 404,ammo,gear and clothes to Zim at under 21kg.
Dont forget your $1 & $5 notes to help things along the way.
Good luck and shoot straight.

Good luck and may you aim straight and hit every target. I can't believe it's been two years since I left for my safari. Like a wonderful dream...

Hi Cinghiale, crkennedy1, Alex and Ben,
Thank you all for your thoughts, I will try and 'Wring' out the best of your beautiful workmanship Alex, I will definitely 'Pick' my shots as the last thing I want is lost or wounded game and as for 'Shooting Straight' I will always do my best believe me, as I believe in the snipers creed "One Shot, One Kill" and as for listening to the P.H. this is an unfamiliar country and game to me and for the amount of dollars to do the hunt I would be stupid not to.
Ben, you had better watch out, there are two on the forum that want to spend all your money but it will be more than worth it and as they say "We can all be broke together".. anyway give those Buffalo heaps whilst I'm away and we can compare notes when I get back.
Cheers to you all,
Jeff

Well that's it, all packed and loaded into the car ready to fly to Sydney tomorrow and Africa on Wednesday.
I am going to miss reading the forum but I should be kept busy if all goes well.
I will do a report on my return,
Cheers for now,
Jeff Gray

Have a great time (hard work not to). Note; if carrying cash, do not carry more than $5000 as it may get confiscated at SA airport.
