I have always wanted to get to W.A for a look and a hunt so when an opportunity came up to hunt Scrub Bulls with two mates I jumped onboard.

Here are some photo's of the country we hunted in.

Forgot what parts of the Kymberleys look like, not having been there since 1983. Looks vaguely familiar.

Yeah! Lovely country, only equalled by the lovely donkeys, pigs and bulla-kees.

Hi Neale,

Looks like another fantastic trip but photos of your trophies would be great. Did you try any 'Texas' heart shots ??

Cheers Mate,

Jeff

Here are some of the Bulls I shot with the 375 H&H.

Most were Shorthorn X.

Here are a few 350 grain PP's recovered from some bulls.MV = 2250 fps.

One broke both shoulders and was under the skin on the other side.

The other two were frontal head shots and found on the points of the shoulders.

By fatboy404 at 2011-08-02

These are 300 grain PP's also recovered from bulls and the MV was 2570 fps.

By fatboy404 at 2011-08-02

I also shot a number of bulls with the 235 grain Hydro's @ 2900 fps but got none back as they either sailed straight through or were too hard to find and believe me I tried.

Even though some of the bulls were light in condition we still found them tough to kill on the spot with one shot as they are still a big animal. Most chest shots (lung & heart) saw the animals make twenty to fifty yards before falling over dead.

Looks like you had a great time there Neale. It can get fairly bloody hot out there.

Neale I take it you threw the big barra back, hehe Those one you have would of been very good eating. My mouth is watering just thinking about a good feed of Barra.

Like the pic's of the recovered projectiles.

Cheers

Greg

Thanks fella's for your interest.

The tides were wrong for the Barra as there was no run. We caught 40 - 50 Barra to that size in about 2.5 hrs from that one hole. Good to see the system so healthy.

It was good to use my 375 and create some memories with it.

NitroX, I'm not supprised it looks familiar as all of the country we saw looked the same.

Our joke was if you got hurt you would say on the sat phone that you were near the big Boab tree where all the stones are.

They would say "GOOD LUCK".

It was on the cards but it will get a run on Red deer,Chitel and Rusa next year.

I'm off to the Cape next month for 9 days for pigs, fishing and a few more Scrub bulls and will take the 9.3x62 there.

Next year to the NT for Buff and pigs with the 404j. (I know, life is tuff)!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks Afro. I'm glad I bought a new camera.

Will let you know when I need a new "NICKAL" cap mate.

You've fired that 375 as well at Dalby in the charging animal.

Yeah, that camera takes good pics. What size are you publishing them at?

I remember firing the .375 up there and my score wasn't too shabby either.

G day Fatboy, that pic with the barra in it, wouldn't be looking accross the Penticost river from Home Valley would it?
40- 50 barra on bad tides,I think that re writes what constitutes a bad tide there then.

I saw lots of bulls and cattle over that way of different colors and with horns so not being a cattle expert assumed they ran a different breed and didn't dock them over there where as nearly all the cattle over here in the NT are brahman with thier horns docked when they are young so most that you see with big horns can be assumed to be scrubbers.
Whats the deal with the ones you were shooting are they undesirable cross breeds of some sort or just wild ones of what they run? just curious.

cheers Gaff
