Have to share this. Biggest she had shot prior was her 7mm-08 Tikka ...

That lass needs a stock build for her, Bill, it'll kick her 'arm' less. She'll be more comfortable with the rifle and be able to shoulder it with better posture/form.

Good shooting though, just the same, especially since it's too long for her. Shooting a too-long stock is prime for difficulty shooting accurately. She did amazinly well - imagine how she'd shoot with a better stock.

My son is curious....

...about the girl.

.375's are a dime a dozen. Girls that go shootin'em for a fun day with their Dads are significantly less common...

Nice going Ellie!

Agree on the stock and also agree on the fine shot! The arched back stance reminds me of offhand target shooting with a heavy rifle, so maybe as much the weight of the .375 as the stock dimensions.
She looks to be the age when a shooting scholarship for college may be a possibility.

I am sure someday that I too may have to break the bad news to my daughters that the boys "just love you for the guns" no matter how pretty they are...

Why didn't they make wonderful young girls like that when I was young?! Love the big smile too.

Great shooting too on the buffalo with a fairly hefty kicking calibre.

I think she is going to cost you a new .375 with a new stock soon ... and an African safari!

Guys, thanks. Ellie is 21 and a senior at Baylor University in Texas. She's studying for the GRE and hopes to get a Ph.D. in genetics. Among other things, she likes to weld and work on cars! Actually, she also shot my Ruger No. 1 in .450-400, but with mild handloads -- 300-grain Hornadys at 1800 fps. If you look at the buff target, you'll see her shots in the right and left nostrils of the bull. The two other shots in the right nostril are my two .375 "backups." We had a fun day at the range.

As the father of a little girl (my daughter was born late in my life) I'm taking a lot of mental notes here. What a lovely young lady, and you, sir, are a great father for bringing her up just like everyone else should bring their girls up!

Congratulations to both of you and may you have a great time shooting and hunting together!

Great Bill. Always good to go out and shoot with your kids. My kids are all grown up and are old people over 40 now.

Got three granddaughters to work with. Here is my Daughter's 16 year old at the IMA shoot this past spring.

Shooting her Greener lady's rifle. She annoyed people with that gun. Others were trying shot the spinning target but they couldn't because she kept them moving.

Firing a .577 Snider. Several first time Snider shooters at the shot and a couple were heard remaking how much the rifle kicked. Grand daughter shot and all watched. After shooting she turned to me and said right out loud. "that doesn't kick that bad grampa". I got a giggle inside because I noticed a couple of snorts and indignant harrumphs in the background.

With the passing of my wife, my grand-daughter has become my favorite hunting partner.

She will be off to college in a couple of years, so I will have to start training up my Sons's 2 year old and 4 year old....

Nice little Martini - I have one I put together in .17HMR with a GM barrel. It's good for 3/8" to 5/8" @ 100 metrs off the bags, depending on the wind.

Fun guns to shoot.

BillfromOregon

Congratulations are in order!
Congrats to you for raising your daughter so that she enjoys spending time shooting with her old man.

Congratulations to your daughter for a good shot, the rifle might not fit perfectly but her enthusiasm and enjoyment compensated for it.

Cheers!

Your problems are booked. My daughter shot my Sako 375 the first time when she was 17 and fell in love with it, since then it was a fight who hunted with the 375. They do not understand that it is your favourite gun, but it makes a dad very proud. She is now 24 and still fights about hunting with my 375. She have her own rifles, why does she still want to hunt with mine

You can be very proud on your daughter, we need more "GIRLS with GUNS"

A few times per year my club hosts a "ladies day" as an introduction to shooting. I bring my #1 in 375 along for the adventerous ones who decide that it's something that they want to try. I introduce the gun as "an elephant gun commonly used by teenage girls in parts of Africa" (not entirely true, and somewhat dramatic, but it builds interest.)

This time around, I went through half a box with the shooters going home with the empty. Lots of pix and it looked like they were having a good time.

It got popular enough where a few years back the club started supplying the ammo.

Cheers,

Tom

Lovely! Lovely! Dads and daughters shooting and hunting - a match made in heaven! My little girl was born late in life as far as I am concerned, but I hope to go on at least one big game hunt with her before my time comes.

Mel - I sincerly hope that comes to pass - and hopefully, many hunts.

I've only had the opportunity to hunt with my 'baby' girl twice, and I treasure that time in the bush with her.

Hopefully, her teaching career will allow us a moose, elk or deer hunt next year. We missed this year - too.
