After an illness where the vet said there was no chance of recovery I reluctantly had my 13 year old Drathaar, Greta, put down. She was losing weight and wouldn't eat and had trouble keeping water down so I felt I did the right thing. She was a great pheasant dog but more importantly a great companion. I will miss her dearly.

Not good, I know what it's like to loose a hunting companion and friend and all you can do is remember the good times and look at the photos and keep the memory alive. As hard a decision that you had to make, it was the correct one to make and I believe that us humans should have the same considerations given to us.

Sad to hear about your loss.

A dog is truly our best friend. Mine was a crazy pup, but is now becoming such a sweet dog, and is almost always with me.

If they become such a close companion in the "pack", they miss us terribly when we are gone, and for me at least, so do I.

My previous GSP, I think about usually at least once each day, or few days now.

Remember your great friend and the good times you had.

I like to plant a tree over my dog's graves. So the tree becomes part of them in the future.

Hey mate.
I feel for your loss.
There's nothing sweeter to a hunter then the warmth of a true friend & the smell of a wet coat.
No doubt the best of her will live on in your memories & your heart.
You made the right decision & she's at rest now.
There's only one cure for the pain that comes with loosing a great gundog - a new pup.
She'd want you to continue hunting over a fine gunodg & you'll be taking a little piece of her out with you when you go.

Hunting's a lifestyle and a passion not a competition!

And it's fine four footed comanions that make that lifestyle what it is & add the passion that consumes us all.
