Rights group wants to can Camel Cup

An international animal rights group is calling for an end to one of the Northern Territory's most iconic sporting events.

People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) says the Alice Springs Camel Cup is a cruel form of entertainment.

PETA spokesman Des Bellamy says watching camels being whipped and raced around a track needs to stop.

"I would like to see people stop attending," he said.

"They can call it the Camel Cup and they can do something else but I don't think they should be racing animals, forcing them at the point of a whip to run round a track.

"They are saying the animals are just there for your entertainment, that they don't have a life of their own, that they don't have feelings, their own desires."

Mr Bellamy says camels could find these events confusing and distressing.

"They belong in the desert, they live in herds," he said.

"We just believe that camels, like any other animals, deserve respect and should not be used for entertainment."

The Alice Springs Camel Cup will be run on July 9.

^ Horse racing is sacrosanct as there is much money, prestige, political, criminal connections and preferential tax offsets attached. FWIW many "non performers" go to the knackers yard.

If you have watched the news, she lied to get into the 'Lodge' even though on a thin GREEN string, has changed her mind re the Carbon Tax from 'There will be no Carbon Tax in the party I lead' to 'It's not a Tax' yesterday to 'Well you could call it a Carbon Tax' today.

I knew it's a lie when she spoke, 'Her lips moved'.

Now that we have a Green / Labor government, we can expect dear 'Bob' to screw us Hunters and Shooters now they have the balance of power.

Did you see the one tonight.


A Carbon Tax is temporary, about 3 years, An emission trading Scheme is permanent.

I had to laugh at that.


My view - piss the whole lot off, we don't need any of them.


The other one was one of the Current Afaairs programs asked the big question. "Just how much will this tax et al (ie all the crap along these lines) lower the temperature ?"

The answer they had. 0.000000005 degrees.

The more PETA talks this sort of crap the more sane people realise they are a bunch of loonies.

Unfortunately there is also a lot of gullible and/or looney people in our populations ... and especially with the amount of brainwashing of youth going on in our schools.
