Warne scope mount bases - what is the difference?
      #183811 - 16/06/11 02:30 AM

For Warne scope mount bases, they list two different steel bases for Parker Hale rifles:

1. 2 pc steel base; or

2. 2 pc Sintered Steel Base.

What is the difference? I don't think it says on the Warne web site.

I note they say (ie Warne) with the QD rings removed, one can use and see and the open sights. For my Whitworth M98 in .375, they blocked the open express sights. In the end due to a completely different problem, I had to get custom bases made, and at the same time, got them made with a groove in them, so the express sights can be used.

John,I have heard of blokes machining the bases with a notch or "V" as the rear sight.
Would be a lot of rooting around but if you could get it to work, would be good.

I would steer clear of the sintered metal as this is made from a pressed powder (that is heated until the grains just start to melt together). I suspect the finish will be painted.

This is obviously cheaper and will result in a base that is a little lighter and not as strong.

I used a pair of warne bases on a Win 88 and they did not clear the rear sight. I thought about grooving them but it would interfere with the screws. ie I would only achieve a mm or so of depth.
