Dorleac and Dorleac 6.5x284 on ZG-47 action
      #183030 - 03/06/11 06:28 AM

Just received pictures of the latest build by my friend Joel Dorleac. In his description:

A SC type, simple working rifle, built by us on a 1954 BRNO ZG-47 action.
The 24" Lothar Walther barrel is chambered for the 6,5-284 Norma (8" twist) and the LEICA ER 2,5-10x42 scope fitted with modified 30mm Talley mounts.
Indeed, the entire action was blue printed and a new single stage trigger replaced the original system.

Best regards.

Awesome action, beautiful rifle.
A very functional hunting rifle featuring the best of everything, while keeping things simple.
Very nicely done. Thanks for showing!

Striking! the firing pin, safety, inside trigger guard mag releas spring, grip cap and screw's being colour cased, is a very nice touch.

I agree with Topfet1 - never have I seen a safety like that one - very nice.

I was wondering though, why the 8" twist, when 9" would be normal for most lengths, to 160gr. Is there a specific extra long bullet in mind, like a 140gr TSX or Woodleigh Hydro perhaps?

Not to take anything away from the excellence of the gunsmithing, but that's the standard safety on the ZG-47.

One small problem with the safety: like safeties on most BRNO rifles, it is locked in the forward position and released in the rear position. Some have recommended thinking of it as being like a Winchester lever action or a hammer model shotgun, and likening the action of releasing the safety to bringing a hammer to full cock. However, in a tight situation, my action in releasing a safety is instinctive. I prefer the safety on the BRNO Models 21 and 22.

Most of the heavier long vld style bullets will require a faster twist such as the 8" listed. I had a 9" on my 6.5 swede and was an iffy proposition to stabalize anything over 130 grains. I imagine the same thing would hold true for any of the woodleighs or tsx's
