I don't think it's Rommel, but the Fritz on the LHS is sporting an Iron Cross 2nd Class ribbon and those cool canvas/leather lace-up Afrika Korps boots along with the early riding breeches.
My wife's Uncle wore his riding breeches and all-leather boots for 35 years after the war while he was shovelling snow outside the front of his house in SE Michigan. I don't think it endeared him to some of the neighbors but since he lived where he did half the rest of the neighbors probably had their old Stahlhelms sitting on the mantel pieces above their fireplaces and were probably jealous he had the Eisern nuts to plod around like he did. Ost Preußische stubbornness I guess.

Back mon topic. Do I see a bar of some sort coming from left of pic through between animals legs and possibly held by the left hand to support the animals weight. Right hand holding animals legs dosent seem to have the thumb arround grip I would espect to hold the weight.
