This was my last dog "Rowdy".
He caught 167 pigs at 22 months but like all good dogs he meet his match and is no longer hunting with me.

Hi Neale,

Was it "Rowdy" that took off after a pig and was never seen again?? I remember a story you told me back a while and you looked for days to no avail.

What's the name of the little foxy, I had a similar one and she was a loyal hunting companion for 15 years or so. You would only get to fire one shot as she was under the rifle watching the direction of the barrel and would take off as soon as she heard the 'Bang' to retrieve whatever you shot, very soft mouthed though and would never bruise a rabbit and bring it back alive if I hadn't done the deed fully.

Cheers Mate,

Jeff

Not having any feral or wild pigs nearby, the closest being on Kangaroo Island, which is close, but still a long way away due to the ferry ride and cost, some allegedly on the Murray River too, so not many guys run pig dogging packs here. I know of one guy though locally.

So FB do you usually hold your pigs with just the one dog?

Jeff.
That was Rowdy.
The little dog is actually a 3 month old Mastiff,Grey hound,Boxer X that is learning the trade.

NitroX.
I only really want one dog but by the very nature of the game you need others coming along to take over.
They get smart pretty quick.Try to run the best armour I can find.

Wouldn't be able to tell you how many dogs I've had over the years.

I use tracking collars and my dogs have as much faith in me as I have in them.

If I had a heart as big as Duke (who is 30kg) I would have played for Australia.

As you can tell I love my dogs as they have more personality than a lot of people.

Some action photos there, but I like the one with Neale with the 3 dogs in the grass. Man's best friends.

Neale,
Is anybody using chain mail for the guards? Like the mail gloves that the meat workers wear.
Could it be used at all, or would the pigs tusks get caught in the mail?
If it could be used, it would stop any penetration of the guard.

There is a bloke that hand sews chain mail as an apron on the front of the breast plate but as a whole collar it would be too heavy and chafe the dog I think.

My old ones were made from 8 layers of shade cloth but these are made from seat belt.

These ones work better on my smaller dogs.

It gets in your blood and your dogs become your best mates.

I would rather catch a pig with a new pup than shoot 6 or 8 pigs. Fortunately I do both.

Got this fella tonight.
"Duke" went 2.4 km's to catch him from where he smelt him. Thank god for tracking collars.
We both need to be a little fitter.

Number 177 for Duke.
