One of my newest and probably the nicest.

The photo does not do it justice. Red stag antler handle, hand forged carbon damascus blade. Nickel silver fittings. Sheath is leather and snakeskin.

Knife is a J.R. Peck.

Too good to ever use.

Unusual blade shape but the back of the blade is actually quite sharp and could be sharper if desired.

The snakeskin sheath.

On the right - Kizlyar DV-2

Fairbairn Sykes dagger

Quote:

Per Wikipedia: The Fairbairn-Sykes Fighting Knife is a double-edged knife with a foil grip developed by William Ewart Fairbairn and Eric Anthony Sykes in Shanghai before World War II, but made famous during the War when issued to British Commandos, including the SAS. The F-S Fighting knife often is compared to a stiletto; the comparison is misleading, as the stiletto is for stabbing and has a longer, narrower (often triangular) blade that typically features no sharpened edge at all. The Wilkinson Sword Company made the knife with minor pommel and grip design variations; currently, the F-S Fighting Knife (having no other practical application but hand-to-hand combat) is of interest mainly to collectors, but it remains in production because of its sleek appearance and historical associations. The knife is strongly associated with the British commandos and the US OSS and Marine Raiders (who based their issued knife on the Fairbairn-Sykes), among other special forces / clandestine / raiding units.

Quote:

The Fairbairn Sykes MoD Commando Dagger
.
The William Rodgers FS sterile (unmarked) all black ‘Official’ Ministry of Defence (MoD) dagger is the only Fairbairn Sykes fighting knife in the world that is supplied under Government contract to the British Ministry of Defence and is listed as an inventory item with the NATO Procurement Division in Luxembourg. MoD specifications state that no issue FS knife shall be stamped with any identification marks. This is confirmed in the manufacturer’s official ‘Letter of Authenticity’ which is supplied with this knife. Amongst other things, it provides the official MoD specs number E/1323E and the NATO stock No. 1095 99 963 2037. For those who appreciate authenticity, this is a real bonus.
.
The Fairbairn Sykes during WW2 became a legend.
.
Features:
Manufactured in Sheffield, England from traditional ‘hand forged - hand ground’ heat tempered hi-carbon steel. Finely balanced for throwing. Point of balance is approximately 11/32” (within 1/16” either way) from crossguard toward pommel nut. Overall length is 295mm. Ringed cast metal handle with 175mm diamond section double-edged blade. Steel crossguard. Non-reflective matt black oxide finish.
.
The MoD issue sheath with this knife is made from the very best ‘Bridle Leather’ and the tip is protected by a black painted 20 SWG brass chape.

The Kizlyar DV-2 is a big solid knife. Makes me think of a Russian T-72 tank or a BMP armoured personnel carrier.

Purchased this knife from Kizlyar at the SCI show at a discounted price as it is marked on the pommel. Good buy. Would make a great pig sticking knife I think. Would also be easy to keep sharp I think.

Quote:

DV-2 - “Dalnya-Vostorchny Spetsnaz”, an acronym for a special purpose unit within the Russian military, whose operational role mainly encompasses the form of a “mobility troop” type, being LRRP (long range reconnaissance patrol) and counter-insurgency operations. This model of knife was designed by the unit and was subsequently made to their specifications. Their requirement was that their knife should be of the extreme hard use type, able to be used for the majority of tasks associated with living off the land deep behind enemy lines or in a frozen Siberian wasteland. If you purchase this knife from Kizlyar we strongly recommend that you buy more than one, you will need to after your friends “relieve” you of the knife if you show it off to them. What can we say, it will make your colleagues green with envy. This, we believe, is one of the finest production knives money can buy today, but not only is it functional, it is also a work of art. Featuring a hand ground, blackened z60 steel blade, a 40x13 stainless steel pommel / guard and a hand shaped / polished walnut handle, make this knife a real show-stopper. Each knife is completely hand made and no two are totally alike. Not only is the knife a fine knife to observe, it is also a fine knife to use. The 235mm long x 5.8mm thick blade serves well in any task you need to execute. Be it chopping, slicing, slashing, carving, food preparation, processing meat and game animals. It is the ultimate in heavy duty, general purpose knives and can be used as such. It is not recommended that a knife be used for tasks other that cutting but in the event of an emergency, this knife can double as a pry-bar and axe (through the use of the chopping edge along the spine of the blade). This is one knife that can be used and used and used until you are too old to use it any more and when you pass it on to the next member of your family, it will outlast them aswell. A beautiful, heavy, handmade leather sheath accompanies this knife with the purchase.
.
Total length: 365 mm
Blade length: 235 mm
Handle: Caucasian walnut
Sheath: Genuine leather sheath

I really like using this knife. The small blade is useful for small game and more delicate work.

I like the sheath too, with the nub on the pommel being held in place by a flap on the sheath.

Knife is a J.R. Peck.

Too good to ever use

I believe they are all to be used Nitro, I have had a couple made for me that I suppose are 'custom' examples but I use them rather than keep them as virgins.

Nice spread on the striped rug too.

I think there are so many there that some do not need to be used, nor are really suitable.

The JR Peck damascus one is too good and is better me not abusing it.

The Russian one really would only be useful on pig sticking. Never done that yet.

The big bowie is for display only.

A big Burmese/Thai hill tribe knife is sharp and usuable, but not for animals.

One or two are souveneirs only.

The mediumn sized knives have all pretty much seen use of some sort.

The Swiss army knife I used to carry in my pocket on planes in the "good old days". Only once had it taken off me, on a BA flight no less to Egypt or Kenya, but it was given to the pilot to give to me on landing. The knife blade was too long for their carry one rules.

The smaller Swiss army knife I used to carry with my keys when I used to wear a suit for work every day.

I usually have a leatherman in my pocket every day now as well. A Wave, not the one in the photo, as I had misplaced it when taking the photo. Found it again since. The reason I have two, as one is always missing!

I am interested in ideas on how to display the knives on a wall. Any ideas? I don't want to drill the brick wall for each knife, so maybe a felt covered board screwed in and the small nails for hanging the knives?

Anyone got such a thing they can post a picture of?

Chapuisarmes,

I haven't put the swords, axes and spears on that photo either.

A retired butcher mate told me, "a knife for show on the belt, and real knives for butchering ...".

These are the knives I use the most for butchering animals especially at home. They live in a butchers knife roll with a small axe.

Two Victorinox butchers knives and a F-dick steel.

A knife I use a lot, one reason it was not in the photo as it was in a jacket pocket. I use it from everything to cutting large round hay bales string nets, to rabbits and deer.

A Jones Custom knife. (corrected from "James" - need to get glasses I think)

A pair of knives I bought in the Golden Triangle of Northern Thailand from some "Burmese" hill tribe ladies, selling stuff on the side of the road.

Hand made traditional knives for the hill tribe warrior. The large one a fighting knife, a very substantial leaf shaped blade and very sharp. Plus a smaller working knife.

The grips are water buffalo horn.

After a reasonable length of haggling I settled with the lady on a price and purchased the knife. She then said to me - "You very beautiful man!" I reckon I was on a good thing there, but .... unfortunately she resembled a little bit like a troll so I decided to forgo, the implicit invitation!

Hello John,

that is a nice collection of knives!

Can you please give me some details about the second knife to the right from the Fairbain-Sykes dagger (a folding knife, black rubber stocks, metal color blade in bowie style)?

Thank you!
Rolf

The carbon steel blade is easy to sharpen

A retired butcher mate told me, "a knife for show on the belt, and real knives for butchering ...".

After being employed as a slaught in an abbatoir I totally agree Nitro.
Though that Damascus blade you have is ultra nice I reckon they all look better with the patina of age and use of the years.
As you know there`s the fella that brings out his Remchester magnum that he has "had" for forty years with nary a scratch on it and there is other fella that brings out his rifle that shows the bruising and scratching of the many hunts..I like to see them used myself.

Bring it with you and we can perhaps lay her on a sambar skin for a pic?

A couple of my old knives.

The above I have had since I was about 12, a Finnish sheath knife. Cool to have when you are 12. What would the anti nutters say about kids having knives like this these days? Potential knife mass murderers no doubt. Ban them!

Needs a bit of cleaning and polishing from the look of it.

The other is an old folder, a Shrade Lumberjack lockback.

Some folders.

A couple Swiss Army pocket knives.

A Victorinox lock back.

And a Wegener pocket life with small maglight. I used to carry this in my pocket when I used to wear a suit a lot for work in the city.

An original model Leatherman. I also have a Wave, when I know where it is ... Found it again since!

A decorative knife I bought in Northern Thailand in the Kukri style. With a dragon crudely engraved into the blade. I like the coins on the sheath. It has a couple small little knives in the sheath.
