point of cross
      #18081 - 17/08/04 11:35 AM

Am I looking at this wrong? I am
working on a soft recoil round in
my Kreighoff double in 375 H&H.
Branes 210 with 75 grns.of Reloader
15 at 50 yds. The right shoots left
and the left is right. It shoots a
6 shot group in a 2 inch box. I dont
care which barrels shoots,it is the
group I want. This is a 50 yard load,
nothing more.

Your barrels are crossing because the velocity is too high. I am guessing that you need to go down by 5 to 8 grains of powder to get the barrels to converge.

Correct. It has to do with barrel time. A slower load exits the bbl. later and will make the bbls. shoot more apart (the opposite is also true, as you already experienced).

3 shots do not make a group, they show a point of aim or impact.
5 shots are a group.

k80:
If your current load is tossing six shots into a 2-inch group at 50 yards with open sights, then you don't really have much to worry about! To fine-tune it, try a grain or two either way and see what happens, some doubles simply don't follow the rules.

My .375 H&H double does not follow the cross rule. I shoots more like a single. POI goes up and group diverges the hotter the load. I can usally put the group (2") whereever I like. I try to print it 1.5" high at 50Yards.

bonanza - i'm expecting my .375 H&H double in a couple of weeks. It's been regulated with Kynoch 300gr Woodleighs, but i'm looking for a STARTING load to duplicate.

if you have any - will you send me your load info?

Thanks,

New Guy,

Here is what regulates for me:

1. Siera 235 H4350 81.5 grains
2. Barnes 270 TSX H414 75.0 grains
3. Barnes 300 TSX Load not found yet
4. Wodlgh 350 PP H414 69.5 grains

Comments:
Load 1 and 2 are much reduced. Low pressure loads.

I have not found a load for my 300 grain
bullent that matches the factory Federal.
I'm sure it will be between 75 and 78 grains
of H414 as the 270 load is perfect.

Load 4 is near max.

I like H414 a lot. Its very compact so you never have to compress it. It also produces the least pressure for a given velocity. I tryed IMR4350 and did not like it one bit. To hot. H4350 is good for the lighter bullets.

In conclusion: check your reloading manual first, but starting a few grains below these loads are a good place to start.

BTW, is this your first double, and what is it?
