on Mai 1 the season on roedeer in germany starts and Fuhrmann send me pics from today

Lancaster,

thanks for posting the pics!
Now I never shot a roebuck that early, and its my first buck over open sights.
Being spoilt by a lifetime of scoped rifles, it took me quite some practicing till I had the confidence in shooting open-sighted.
This will be a memorable day.

What precision do you expect/recommend in training for shooting at paper targets at 50 meters for being qualified for the hunting of live animals?
(What a sentence...)

I would love to try also to hunt from a "hochsitz" with an open sighted rifle (hunter model of a M71 rifle in 11,15x60R / .43 Mauser with 370grs lead bullets and a light nitro load.

this particular rifle is very accurate and the sights are good - if you look under the link above in this thread, you will see a target.
Have been able (once) to put 5 shots in one inch over 60 m, but this was a black/white target. Actual problems are not group size, but seeing contrast in less than ideal light, and aiming correctly (for instance, I find it much more difficult to keep same height of impact than to avoid errors to left or right). And changing light conditions have a lot of effect. Actually I was practising for quite a while till I had the confidence.
My practical limit would be the distance where I still hit the proverbial Bierfilz (beer mat) any time.

I am also playing with a Ferlach cape gun 11.15x52R (shortened .43 Mauser case) but have more problems here. Haven't found the right bullet yet, and the sights are not so clear to see. No good groups with Swiss black powder yet, but SR4759 looks promising.

whats with a paper patched 300 grains softpoint for the 44 magnum. original muzzle velocity must have been +/- 400 m/sec. a 44 mag softpoint would work well with this velocity .

have you try the delsing softpoints for 11,15x60R? talk with him, a good softpoint can be an advantage

I have tried .44 300 grain Nosler bullets, without patching - fit is reasonable but not perfect. Results were about "Bierfilz" at 50 m. Maybe I should try this again with paper patches, but the barrel is quite tight (10.98 mm), maybe not enough room for proper patching of a .44 bullet.
Also tried 300 grain hard cast bullets from the German supplier RBC with 3 different diameters, results a bit better but still not convincing yet.
Best bullets I have is a supply of ca. 295 grain bullets that my father cast 30 years ago, from an original mold - unfortunately I do not have the mold.
These hold 2 inch circles at 50 m, with the occasional flyer which may not be the bullets fault.

Congratulations Furmann,

If there is one other european game species I would like to hunt it is the roe deer.

My wife did a final year in a Swiss high school in Dietlikon and we will return one day. Then I will be looking at Swizterland with a hunters (not a tourists) eye. Is there professional guiding in Switzerland ?

Switzerland is complicated, because hunting rules are very different from one canton to the next. You can hunt ibex in some mountain cantons, guided by a game warden (expensive). I don't know of any other guided hunts here - yes, guest hunting is possible but there must be some invitation from a hunting club.
Generally I'd think Austria, Germany and the former east bloc countries will be better places for a guided hunt.
