Pics of the day - Hunting in the Americas

"My 1900 lb. Dakota Bison with my Pedersoli Kodiak in 45-70." From Buddy Watson, a member of the NitroExpress.com Facebook page.

Well down Buddy, and with a double .45-70 too.

Really cool!

Some guys here take a jaunt to kill a bison every other year. Zip over to a place in MT in the morning and have the critter's meat carcass hanging in the locker back here in Idaho in the eve.

Costs have risen recently along with beef, so they might be buying local beef instead.

I gotta kill a bison...

Very cool pic, Nitro!

I have an ambition to hunt fair chase bison oneday with my "bovine slayer", "Zabardast", my Jeffery .450 NE.

I think a bison's shoulder mount would be HUGE, perhaps too big. How are they usually displayed?

I'm not sure if there is a usually, but some have them neck forward, but the limiting factor seems to be size as you say. "Where ya gonna stick the thing?" is the question for most. I've seen some bleached, they look cool too. Most around here only kill non-trophy animals for meat, and sell the hides.

I'd like a full rug with bleached head/horns, trophy or not.

Me too. I'm approaching 10 points for Utah's Henry Mountains hunt. Supposed to be one of the toughest bison hunts around. And damned hard to draw, too, I might add...

A few years ago I killed a Boone & Crockett quality black bear and went to Cabela's Kansas City location to view all of the "top" entries. One was a record-book Arizona bison, bleached with Ted Nugent's signature scrawled across the skull. I like skull mounts, and I like Ted Nugent's music & politics, but I'm not sure I'd have him autograph my trophies.

From several years ago in Alaska--two bears got really pissed off at each other--sorry for the quality...took a photo of the photo...the lighter one actually ended up holding the darker one down under the water --seemingly trying to drown him...

My daughter's tree planting crew returned to camp to find a black bear eating cans of bear spray. His entire head was red from the capsicum spray when he pierced the cans.

We have an annual buffalo hunt here in northern B.C. - all wild animals. Originally a guide and outfitter up in Fort Nelson (I think) area bought some - years ago and after a while, they kept breaking out and now there is a substancial wild population of these woods buffalo - again. Yes - 2,000 pounds is a good bull.

John - that charging bear look like he's pissed off. I wouldn't want to have been taking that picture unless it was with a telephoto and I had a big rifle at hand. That's an exciting picture! Makes for some impressive imaging in the mind.

The bear sitting in the tree stand and Yogi waiting for the picnic basket are certainly taking a few liberty's

I gues that tree stand served it's purpose. No need to sit and wait for the bear, walk to tree shot bear, go home.

I have a few tree stands set up around the country for hunting deer and elk..one in particular has had the entire seat eaten off of it by a bear last spring/summer...

So it is a real photo? Must be unusual to have so many mature bucks all together?

What's the species? Mule deer?

(I know I am hopeless on NA deer species!)
