Mauser M03 barrel channel?

Does any one have any photos of the barrel channel of the M03 model?

I am particularly interested in both the lock up mechanism of the M03 ie how the barrel is attached to the stock/action ... and also what metal fittings are in the stock itself, particularly the barrel attachment.

I believe there is an alloy block in the fore end stock to which the barrel attaches by way of two screws? Is this correct?

Is this alloy block attached to the action ie solid with the action, or attached to the stock?

The barrel is attached by two screws that fit into what you call the alloy block. It is basically a metal rail on which the barrel sits. This rail is part of the action, which itself is attached to the stock by a rather large screw that is accessible from the stock end (as well as by the two said screws once they have engaged the barrel as there is wood between the rail and the points where the screws engage). You should keep in mind that the barrel is not just a barrel, it contains the chamber as well. The bolt-head also engages directly in the barrel, which is fairly standard with many modern European rifles nowadays.

I received pictures and links of the barrel channels months ago.

And received my M03 in December.

I will get around to posting photos of my own rifle soon.

I've got four barrels on the way here at the moment.



I used one in Norway, owned by ErikD a member on here. It was a 7x64 and I used it to hunt moose.

It was the same model as what I bought. A plastic stocked extreme version. Mine currently has a heavy barrel in .30-06, which I may not need. The heavy barrel "stock" though is said to take bigger bore barrels though.

Per Erik, the coating on the metal work resists rust so does not need oiling as much as normal blueing. He told me not to bother oiling it after it got rained on. I think I did anyway.

It has a detachable magazine which is reasonably quiet.

The safety is a decocker, and is quiet and easy to use.

Changing the barrel is easy enough. The tool was lost doing transport for mine so I am using a hex tool.

The Mauser QD mounts seem effective. I have not tested them out yet.


Erik's worked well on the moose and had a suppressor on it.

I have ordered the M03 Africa in .375 H&H with the heavy African barrel.
Its also magnaported.
I upgraded the wood to high grade 5. I reckon Mauser have a funny (expensive) method of grading their timber. I also had the engraved bolt added.
I'm keen on a second barrel in 458 Lott and would also love a barrel in 257 Weatherby.
I have asked re the Weatherby barrel await a reply.

I own an M03 Arabesque. I have three barrels. A 375 H&H, 404 Jeffery, and a Match Grade .308 Winchester. All three barrels shoot a lot better than I do. I find the "return to zero" reliable at 100 yards. At 300 the scope takes a few click to get to zero. Action is extremely smooth. The safety is the best I've found. Tip of the day. When you go to set the barrel make sure you degrease the metal plate that the barrel sits on.

Only downside is that you have to use Mauser's , barrels, bolt faces, scope mounts and rings. The Mauser mounts are rock steady!

Hope you enjoy your M03. I plan to make a lot of room in my gun safe as I add new barrels!

Some day I`LL sell all my vintage junk, and customrifles, buy a Mauser M03 and go hunting, for the rest of the money..

2 barrels I would get then for the M03 is the .270wea + .375H&H
