What Type of Base for a Bushnel TRS25 Red Dot Sight?
      #178677 - 10/04/11 12:50 PM

Good Day Ladies and Gents:

I bought a new Bushnell Model TRS25 Red Dot Sight for my Merkel 141 E. The Ring on the scope has a weaver style attachment.

I bought the scope because I got a hell of a deal for it and if I don't like it, I will put it on my 45-70 lever action.

The base that came with the Merkel rifle appears to be a blank. Or perhaps it is designed for a Doktor Optik. In any case, can someone recomend the correct base so that I may mount the scope to my gun.

I have been told by others here that the bases used by Merkel are Recknagel. A base make and model number would be greatly appreciated.

Kindest regards,

carpediem

Come on you guys. Somebody out there in double rifle land has got to have some suggestions.

EAW manufactures a mounting base to attach an aimpoint to the rear base of the Merkel but I don't know if it takes the standard Weaver type mount. The mount number is 2700/056. Has anyone else used this mounting plate and does it allow for a weaver style mount to be attached?

I sent an e-mail to EAW last week but have yet to hear from them.

Kindest regards,

Carpediem

I am going through a similar process with Trijicon. I never received a reply from Trijicon USA, but the local Aussie Trijicon, originally asked me to measure the double rifle mounting bases or area and see if they have a model which will fit.

I know you have been trying to get onto EAW, so the best bet would be to try to deal and get information from a dealer, or distributor of the companies in question.

I can't answer which base would fit, as I don't have the double rifle in question or one like it.

Yours looks like this?

Quote:

Installing the Sight on the Firearm
The Micro Sight is designed for installation on most types of weapons, which have a MIL-Std 1913 Picatinny Rail or Weaver Rail. If your weapon does not have or support an appropriate base(s), please consult your dealer, gunsmith or other qualified source.
Installing the Sight on a Picatinny/Weaver Rail
a) Loosen the Shaft by means of the Allen Wrench, so that the Locking Bar (12) can clamp around the Picatinny/ Weaver Rail.
b) Install the Sight to the weapon Rail by tightening the Shaft). First, ensure that the Sight is correctly positioned and that the Shaft (=recoil stop) fits into a groove on the Picatinny/Weaver Rail.
To make sure that the Shaft is firmly tightened, screw the Shaft clockwise until a light resistance can be encountered.
After that, screw another 1/4 to 1/2 turn. WARNING! Do not overtighten.
c) When using Lens Covers, ensure that they are correctly positioned and can easily be opened.
d) Finally, make sure that the Shaft with Locking Bar is firmly tightened around the weapon Rail.
e) Complete zeroing according to the "Zeroing" section below.

In the PDF the mounting system is displayed. But as indicated, as you know, it needs a base which fits the Merkel.

I would try Merkel as well, or their US agents and dealers.
