Sanford, N.C. Double Rifle Shoot "in doubt".....
      #178331 - 03/04/11 10:47 PM

Gents

For the past 2 years I have enjoyed attending the Southern Side by Side Spring Classic held at Deep River Sporting Clays and Shooting School. This year's event will be held April 29-May 1. Unfortunately, it appears there may not be an area to shoot double rifles. Bill Kempffer should let me know any day now. I, for one, probably will not attend should this be the case. Don't know if it will help, but you can email Bill at info@deepriver.net or call 919-774-7080. I will keep everyone posted.

Don

I currently have a hotel reservation but if there isn't a double rifle shoot, I won't go. I have attended this event for the past two years and the informal double rifle event has been the most enjoyable gun-related event that I have ever attended. Corbin Shell worked very hard to make it happen for the past two years but I guess there isn't any support from the main organizers for this sort of thing. It's a real shame.

As with you fellows, it's the double rifle shoot that prompts me to drive 2000 miles round trip. I'll maintain my motel reservation until a few days before the event but will most likely not drive down unless there is a change in attitude by the organizers. I DID send Bill an e-mail expressing my dissappointment. The more who do, the greater possibility he might change his mind.

Best,
Ron.

I also sent Bill an email and I encourage others to do so as well.

Regards,

Jim

It's too bad that there is not a way to convey this information to the exhibitors. If a large percentage of those who go because of double rifles do not go, then it will certainly affect their potential sales. They would probably have considerably greater influence on the management of the Deep River Club than we have.

Sounds like I'll pass on the event this year.

Corbin Shell told me by email he's not going. He plans to attend the NRA exhibition in Pittsburgh that weekend. It doesn't sound like there will be anything to hold the interests of double rifle shooters.

Shooting into a dirt bank at plastic jugs at 25 yards doesn't seem to be much of an event to me...

Just a comment on this.

I would say DR shooters are at the higher end of the pay scales and generally appreciate and purchase the higher end of the scale of Shotguns.

Would that be correct in the US ?

Phillip,
1) A 25 yard range is what was made available to us. How else then could we shoot?
2) The many "Stopping Rifles" like .470NE, .450 #2NE, .577NE, and the many wonderful old Scottish and English, Black Powder Express rifles which were present last year, are in fact designed to be used at ranges like 25 yards.
3) Did you even bother to stop by, say hello, and avail yourself of the offer, which many of us advertised here for a month before the Southern, to shoot any one of our double rifles at zero cost to you? Somehow, I doubt very much that you did. I will tell you, however, that dozens of others DID take us up on our offer, and enjoyed themselves immensely.

Not trying to stirring up dust, trust me,I've pulled many triggers...
I did stop by and looked around and in my mind,I did not consider it a safe shooting area. The dirt bank is only 6-8 feet high. A "double" could easly put a round into one of the cars parked on the road above. An accident waiting to happen" in my mind.

Bill puts on the best shotgun event in the South, let's applaud that and leave the rest be...

Well Gents, one week after I sent a second email to Bill at Deep River, I have not even received the courtesy of a reply. Very poor business.

Same with me Don. At least a week since I sent him a very polite and business-like e-mail. Darned poor business, for sure. Customer relations is obviously not high on the list of priorities with Deep River's management. To he** with them, turkey season opens on the 26th. I'm gonna stay home and get my grandson set up on his 2nd and 3rd gobblers. Sure will miss the great company tho, like you, and Mike, and Corbin, et al!

If you've got your hearts set on a DR shoot.. Wander on up her towards the end of this month.. We'll have our spring shoot out then. Everyone is welcome!
