Mauser 98 Safeties - alternatives ?
      #177789 - 28/03/11 02:06 PM

Hello Folks

I am looking for examples of "artisan style" or gunsmith modifications to Mauser 98 safteies to accomodate a low scope. I have an FN, Beuhlers, a Model 70 style, and some of the trigger locking types. There are also two different Brno approaches I have seen but I am looking for aternatives to all these.

In the past I have seen at least one picture of a "european" modified safety that looked good and used the original shroud.

If you know of any pics on the net or could post pics I really appreciate it.

Thanks - Foster

Not sure where the David Miller Co side swing saftey on the original bolt shroud fits in those you mentioned, but I think it looks pretty and a change from the Mod70 style. I am sure you have seen it on the SCI Elephant Rifle.

Cheers, Chris

Hi Tentman,

I am not sure what you are looking for exactly but I have always used the Recknagel. Have a look at their site http://www.recknagel.de/Joomla/en/actions-and-side-locks.html

Cheers,

This is a Precise Metalsmithing 2 position safety on a Mauser shroud. It works well.

Cheers.

Satterlee Arms manufacturers a M98 3 position...have one on my 1909 Arg. 9.3x64.....Stuart does rather nice work.

Thanks Guys BUT I already have a Satterlee 3 Position, and have seen many others. They are all nice BUT I want to see if any of the European artisans (either contemporary or from yesteryear) adapted or made a scope safety. For example I've also seen the two Brno versions, one for the ZG-47, and a different one for the Model 21/22.

Cheers
