Vixen 1-4x24 Scope
      #177412 - 19/03/11 06:59 PM

Well I purchased this scope and the QRW rings turned up yesterday so tonight I mounted up the scope to my 458WM. I'm not much of a tech writer but I'll give my impressions as I get to know this scope.

First up it mounted well on the rifle with 88-85mm eye relief. Not a huge amount but better than the Trijicon scope I was going to purchase. Please note that I'm not canning the Trijicon or any other scope, just comparing with what I was going to purchase.

By the way, this scope has an illuminated dot in a Duplex type reticle.

Anyway, here's a couple of pics. Hopefully I'll put a few rounds through the rifle tomorrow. Onya

Cheers,
Mark.

Mark,

I'm a bit of an optics nut but am not familiar with Vixen scopes. Are they being imported ? How is the sight picture on 1x with both eyes open ? It looks a great scope for DG & BG.

Yeah John,

They are being imported by Errol Mason of 'Secrets of the Sambar' fame. The sight picture is wide open with very little of the 'looking down a tunnel' sight picture. The optics look very clear in the dull light of my trophy room. If all goes well with this scope on my 458WM I'll put it on my 416RM when it gets home later in the year.

Cheers,
Mark.

I had a chance to sight the new scope in today but not much more as there was a pistol shoot pending. However I did find the new Vixen scope very clear and was easy to track across the target after bore sighting. A bit hard getting real close bore sighting with a 458 hole down the barrel.

After getting dead on at 50m I then moved to the 100m target and was happy when the 350gr pussy load punched dead on at that distance. I proceeded to put in a 2" group at 100m. This was pretty rushed as the pistol shooters were starting to roll up and I ain't that good of a shot.

Then trying a 500gr factory round at 50m I found it also hit to the same POI, then 1 of my woodleigh PP 500gr handloads that printed 3" low at 50m bugga I've also found this with open sights as well.

All up so far I must say that I'm pretty happy with the scope purchase.

Cheers,
Mark.

Mark , A bit of a trick when bore sighting is to punch the primer out off a case & stick that in the chamber & sight through flash hole !

Interested in seeing how it performs on a .458.
